"Puma" actually means something different, but I'm so stoned on cold meds I can't remember what it is. I think it's a younger-generational maneater, which we would normally just call, you know, a hipster. #russellbrand
@raincoaster: You are right. A Puma is someone in their 20's - 30's who likes to date younger men. Sorry Demi - you are not in your 30's! #russellbrand
@raincoaster: My most recent memory of what a "puma" is comes from the past presidential election. "Pumas" were women voters who (for the most part) jumped ship from the Democratic Party when Hilary didn't get the nomination or the VP spot. "Party Unity, My Ass" equals "puma." At least initially, the pumas all ran toward Caribou Barbie on the GOP ticket as if she were some sort of snowbilly savior. Which makes it all the more weird that Demi actually wants to be called a puma. #russellbrand
"Thou shalt not fornicate." Prejean is safe as the TMZ article truly clarifies that the home-made porn is a solo act. Who knew she had such talent? #rihanna
Sorry, but "What the hell is a disco stick anyway!?!" "I think you know" just cracks me up. But it's amazing how someone who's been performing for damn near 30 years still blows her lines like that. #saturdaynightlive
This sketch wasn't funny, regardless of what take it was. Period. I'm tired of hearing how awesome Lady Gaga was for appearing on SNL. I do like her, but her SNL involvement was boring at best. #saturdaynightlive
@TheExperience: Well, that's hardly her fault, though. Her performance was fine -- she can't be expected to write the sketches as well. Please note that I'm not a fan of hers by a long shot, but fair is fair. What's wrong with that sketch has nothing to do with either her or Madonna, blown lines to the contrary notwithstanding. It's just not even vaguely funny, and wouldn't have been no matter who was in it. #saturdaynightlive
I recall seeing more GaGa ass in the original broadcast. Could her see-through shorts be the reason for the switch? Because there sure isn't anything funny in either version. #saturdaynightlive
@SpyMagician: Hey, got no complaint about her ass. Much better than Madonna's. And as long as it doesn't break out in song we'll get along just fine. #saturdaynightlive
That was much better! Not racier- it just shows how horribly Madonna flubbed the lines "I have hundreds of hits/you only have two" in the original live broadcast. Even here she flubs, saying "tastes...sounds like baby food!". Whatever, still love the bitch, she looks great.
Dubbing in the rehearsal tape on a repeat though- the producers must have thought the live broadcast was a bit of a fiasco to do that. But glad they did.
Now I'll stop analyzing a C- comedy sketch to death. Ugh. #saturdaynightlive
@Baroness: You've inspired me to flog the olde analytical pony further.
Here's what I think: Madonna is awesome in a myriad ways. She's a savvy businesswoman, a person with exquisite taste in all things pop culture, an expert self-image manipulator, a great-looking middle-aged woman.
She'd be a classic textbook entertainer if it weren't for two things: She can neither sing nor act. The former hurdle she figured out a way to get around, but the latter is harder to leap. And it KILLS her! It's so transparent that she can't act her way out of a paper bag even on a C- comedy sketch, let alone in the movies. Yet she tries, and tries, and tries forevermore..
I love how her refusal to accept that she will never, ever be a passable actress makes me feel sorry for her. Heh. #saturdaynightlive
@snugbug: Yes to all. The updated and improved Cher, and I say that with admiration.
I don't know a thing about acting, or how hard or easy it is, but I read once that Madonna can't act because she can't let go of total control for even one second. It makes sense, whether or not it's true. #saturdaynightlive
@If_I_Had_a_Poodle: Correct. She's alpha-chick supreme. I don't know much about the finer points of Kabbalah, aka her religion of choice, but maybe a crash-course in Buddhism would do her good: Stop clinging to unrealistic hope + expectation. Settle down, sister. You've already accomplished enough. Accept that some things are what they are, and cannot be improved upon, no matter how hard you try. (I know it's anathema to us Western minds who suckled the "individual can change the world" philosophy with our mothers' milk, but the Buddhists kind of have a point. Sometimes.) #saturdaynightlive
@snugbug: Let it be, let it be. I personally have a dim view of Kabbalah, as a variant on the self-justifying noise of the "god wants you to be rich, so send us all your money" stuff on late-nite TV -- ascend the mystical levels that only a few are enlightened enough to see, and you will be more special than you already are, and you are already pretty darned special. But I take a dim view of organized religion generally, as being responsible for most of the trouble in the world. #saturdaynightlive
@snugbug: Oh, you're lovely and astute, I agree. Madonna's strength is in sheer artifice, I think. And nothing wrong with that! Art is part of artifice, and she's had mostly impeccable taste in what she chooses to do. When she has control, Madonna has created images, or even fleeting moments, of beauty and pop transcendence, that I shall love her forever for.
But live TV is the opposite of that- she really flubbed it! But so what.
Her mere presence is sort of a thrill. She's a big enough star, the last great 20th century star I think, that we can see how ..bad she is , but still enjoy the fact she was game enough to do it. To try it, risk it. For a control freak like she is, it's something, and sort of fun.
Ah, I do love her. Enough to laugh when she oversteps her capabilities sometimes, but affectionately. #saturdaynightlive
@Baroness: Well said, that! Although one thing forgotten in this thread - she can not sing or act, but bitch can DANCE. Which is the place she trumps Lady Gaga here. But hoofin' it was always her specialty.
In the end, I adore them both, calculatingly crazy ladies that they are. This sketch was Feh, but it IS SNL, 2009. #saturdaynightlive
@snugbug: Ha, so true. Watching this I was thinking: Madonna can't act. She is a master at performing herself and her persona. But she can't act as herself in a skit (because the word "act" is involved).
She looks fabulous for her age, though. In fact, screw it: She looks fabulous for someone half her age. She obviously loves her own legs, too, judging by this skit.
Is it me, or does Lady Gaga have zero stage presence in this skit? I didn't realize it was her until I reread the post. Yet Madonna gets a few winks in, a few "look at me, I'm Madonna and I'm in this skit" moves when her drag queen instincts kick in. Frankly, she should just rely on those more often and forget this acting business. Cute to watch her try, though. #saturdaynightlive
Dude, Madonna can't sing. Yeah, I know: Stop the presses! But it's painful to watch how she flat-tones her sing-songy lines while this Lady Gaga person nails them effortlessly. #saturdaynightlive
What is so racy about this? It's pretty tame and not very funny... it only makes me wonder how bad the other one was... not so much to like, actually care or hunt down the clip though. #saturdaynightlive
@Richard Blakeley: The other one basically had shit sound quality. You couldn't really hear what Madonna or Lady Gaga were saying to each other, so it was more 'awkward'. #saturdaynightlive
