I think it's a really lovely photo, and the kids are friggin' adorable, but wouldn't it have made more sense to photograph the family against a lighter background? Isn't there a room in the White House with yellow or peach wallcoverings? #annieleibovitz
@xyzpdq: agree. the darker clothing should have been forward, and the lighter clothing back in this room, but still nice photo. good looking people. #annieleibovitz
I like that the wholesomeness of this photo makes us all forget about the OTHER families out there who have no work and have been hung out to dry while 25 year old Wall Street shitheads are still bathing in champagne. Viva Obama! Viva capitalismo!
They all look lovely in it--beautiful in fact. But I'm shocked at the bad composition, particularly for the photographer who made her reputation with Extremely Contrived Composition. The little one has a painting coming out of her head! And of all the beautiful places to shoot in the WH....a corner in the Green Room with two gaping doorways?? This looks like a snapshot grabbed during a tour. "Oh, stop! Sit here! Smile!" Luckily AL had a very photogenic family as her subject. #annieleibovitz
@Trixie from Toronto: It must be so on purpose. There's no way a heavyweight of Ms. Liebovitz's caliber can still inadvertently compose tableaux where the protagonists wear "lamp shade hats" and such, right? #annieleibovitz
@snugbug: There's no way we'd ever let someone of Ms. Liebovitz's caliber phone in a few gigs. She's probably just starting a brand new stylistic revolution. I predict her next step is to take photos using only two snake lights and a half-charged Samsung Rogue. #annieleibovitz
@BookishLookish:
I have the occasional mental image of Sasha riding a razor scooter up and down the halls of the White House, like an updated Eloise or something of that nature. #annieleibovitz
@skahammer: I can answer that. Yes. Yes, they can. They can look at a photo of a loving family and think, "Fucking muslin." Because they are that stupid. #annieleibovitz
@skahammer: Sorry, I get overheated in the face of overwhelming stupidity in the face of logic. I have long suspected my m-i-l of being a birther but in the interest of familial peace, I have to keep my mouth shut. #annieleibovitz
Poorly framed. The composition cuts their legs off in a way that draws your eyes off the bottom of the picture. Also, the camera is just off-level enough to make it look unintentional. It looks less like an official portrait than it does a well photographed snapshot.
That said, when I see pictures of the Obamas, I get all gooey. I still can't believe that this is our first family. #annieleibovitz

The First Family portrait is so good that it cancels out the most recent American family portrait beamed around the world. #annieleibovitz
