    Katie Holmes *does* have cold sores, but she didn't obtain them from Tom Cruise. I know this because I worked with her in 2004 - before she even met him...


    Anyway, who *doesn't* have herpes nowadays?

    Cold sores are usually cause by HSV-1 (not the genital kind.) And up to 70 percent of adults are infected with it, although they may not break out. So don't get all high and mighty!

    @Carol Gardens: There's also a common fungal infection of the corneers of the mouth that mimics cold sores. It's unrelated to sexual activity. I can't remember the name of it, natch.
