Wait, where's all the outrage about Jimmy Kimmel dating his staffer?
Did she get special privileges? Did he use his power and prestige to seduce a naive young writer who's barely over 30? Did he ever sleep with her while dating Sarah? Does he have a fold-out couch in his office? Has he ever told sex jokes about other celebrities?
Oh, and also, did the former co-host of "The Man Show" create a hostile work environment? We demand to know!
I thought half the point of getting take-out was so you didn't have to tip. Delivery, you tip. Eating in, you tip. Take-out is supposed to save you that 15-20%.
@labyrinthine IS DOING THIS: If they do something additional for me, like if I ask them to go and get me a drink while I wait or whatever, then I'll give them a buck or two. Otherwise you don't get a tip for handing me something.
@Dictator for Life: If I'm a regular and I'm getting takeout, I can usually come up with a buck or two to make it 10%. For me, it's less about principle and more about the relationship I have with the staff.
If you're a world-famous celebrity, it's probably a good idea to tip anything that moves, just to save yourself the public abuse. (Then again, if I were a world-famous celebrity, I'd send a hanger-on to get my takeout.)
$70 for steak and mac+cheese? Either it was for a few more people than just Miley and sister, or there's some Olympic-class bulimia going on in that household.
Oh, and Rudy Giuliani is definitely a dick, and he's been one as long as he's been newsworthy. Between being a lawyer, a prosecuting attorney, a politician, and a prude, does anyone really expect him to be anything else?
"Shtupping" and "putz" must be my favorite Yiddishisms of all times. Both these wonderful words, "Frumpracula" AND a Dickens reference? Fire the rockets! Do the hora! Adderall all around!
Tell you what, Foster: I have a quickfire challenge for you. If you manage to work in "shtupping" in every item you post for the rest of the day, there will be a prize for you at the end.
Totally late to the game, but your The Grind reference yesterday made this piss-poor weekend...uh...tolerable, at the very least. Now I'm going to sit back, and reflect on better days at the Jersey shore, doing bumps off a kitten's paw beneath the Howard Johnson in Asbury. It's true because it happened.
Re: that Miley Cyrus story. I didn't know you're supposed to tip when you get take out. I thought the tip was for service, but if I'm not getting served, why would I?
Maybe I'm just ignorant. Also, who gets Outback takeout?
@NotSafeForLife: In New York, you tip for everything. Even when you get mugged, you give them a few bucks just for not punching you in the face and opting for the kidneys instead.
@NotSafeForLife: Dear Abby/Ann Landers (Dear Landers?) Taught me that the rule of thumb is you tip when they bus your table. But NY is a lawless land and all bets are off.
@NotSafeForLife: I was going to comment on the same thing... I don't think I've ever left a tip for take out... but then again, I live in the wastelands that make up the rest of North America.
@sparklyharempants: Honestly? They work in restaurants. It takes them five to ten minutes for someone to take your order, process it, make sure it's right, and get it to you. Should it be this way? No! Is it this way? Yes! So you can either rebel against the dominant paradigm, or not stiff someone. Your call.
@Triborough: Shit, have you no idea how stupid that argument is? Experienced people have worked in previous administrations, including the Clinton administration, which was revered, successful and worked out well.
Why don't you just remind all of Gawker land about the corruption of the Chicago political machine and go the fuck away. Jesus. Jessica Simpson has more notes than you.
Now all these kiddies whose only apparent knowledge of the Clinton administration is the rants of an overly-enthusiastic liberal junior college government professor will learn that no one came out of those 8 Clinton years untarnished. So get used to it, because it will probably happen again. The Republican hatred of the Clintons knew no bounds, and those of us who lived to tell learned to ignore. BTW, bring on the Branch Davidians - those were the good old days.
Speaking of weasels, on MSNBC just before Pat Buchanan was sounding like a Democrat and New Gingrich gave the impression he was calling Bill O'Reilly a fascist. What gives?
Christ, did nearly everyone drink a tall glass of spectacularly missing the point? With a shot of diluted reading comprehension?
This post is hardly a criticism of Obama. And, as plenty of noted, if you want experienced people contributing to the administration, you are going to have folks who worked in the Clinton administration.
Let's wait and see how many war profiteers, mercenaries and torturers Bush pardons before he leaves office. But never mind that. Of course Bill Clinton's pardon of Frank Rich is so much worse because, you know, he's a Democrat and he got a blow job in the oval office and all that. It amazes me the amount of hatred otherwise reasonable people continue to harbor against the Clintons. Criticizing Obama for hiring people who worked in the Clinton administration is just another aspect of the hysterical anti-Clinton hatred that continues to fester among many quarters of the right and left.
Just because Obama is intelligent enough to recruit talented people with experience (rather than populating his administration with second-rate sycophants and inept hacks ala G.W. Bush) doesn't automatically invalidate his promise to change Washington. The first step toward getting anything done is assembling a group of people competent enough to actually help you achieve what you want to achieve. Whether he will do so remains to be seen. But criticizing him before he even gets started is infantile and unnecessary.
@bjonston: it always amazes the shit out of me, how few ppl who read this site, despite its own insistence, all over, that it is snarky and sarcastic, how few ppl understand anything approaching sarcasm around here. seriously!
