Eh, I still love the Simpsons. It hasn't been laugh out loud funny in years, but it's a part of my childhood. I rarely catch the new episodes but I always watch the repeats that air in syndication. It's still better than about 80% of all the shows on t.v. That isn't saying much but I still appreciate the fact that they are chugging along. #margesimpson
The Simpsons still has enough credit in my book to do at least a (non-consecutive) season's worth of stupid episodes, but now that the merchandising craze is over and the movie has been made, maybe it's time to quit. I do enjoy the fact that Europe loves the Simpsons and I would not enjoy all of the farewall hoopla that a Simpsons finale would gather, but though some may argue that Sesame Street and SNL have run their course, the Simpsons truly have, and I'd like to see them retire with some dignity. #margesimpson
@VioletViolet: They should only make 4 episodes a year or something. Let the writers work with more material. Cranking out 13 episodes a year has to be hell.
The world loves the Simpsons. I knew a guy from India who learned to speak American from watching the Simpsons. He learned English with 2 years of school and pirate satellite broadcasts. The kids wanted to be hip and cool and that meant understanding the American shows. The Simpsons does so much for democracy and promoting an American way of life that the U.S. should be broadcasting it 24/7 to turn hearts and minds our way. It would probably work. #margesimpson
@bens: I totally agree. In Spain they love the Simpsons, too. That's how they explained the word for "burp"--"eructo"--to me. "Like Homer Simpson. Blaaah." And I understood.
I grew up identifying with Bart Simpson, so Marge has always seemed very motherly to me. Then again, it's not good j/o material unless it makes you feel guilty, so I'll see you in five minutes. #margesimpson
"We diddle childhood memories, you complain. We diddle childhoods and run to Europe, you complain. Exactly what combination of diddling and childhood are you comfortable with?"
@Phyllis Nefler: I'm pro-Griffin over Simpson. The blue-hair thing reminds me of octogenarians. Griffin's got red hair, maybe dangerously skinny. I dig. #margesimpson
And the voice actor behind Lois, Alex Borstein, is pretty va-va-voom as well. If only for being quoted in the NYT with this self-description: "I'm a five-foot-tall, middle-class Jew with a pudge...." Now that's what I call demurely sexy, folks. #margesimpson
@Phyllis Nefler: One of the funniest moments in the commentary tracks (you wanna make somethin' of it?) is when one of the show's writers starts to wax rhapsodic about how great he thinks Lois-the-person would actually be and Seth MacFarlane interrupts him: "You wanted to knock the bottom out of her." #margesimpson

Hey, there is nothing new here: cartoon character Bugs Bunny was nude all the time (except for gloves and when he wore drag, of course). #margesimpson

@Phyllis Nefler: Funny you should mention that. Not sure who would wear the donuts better -- Marge or Homer? #margesimpson
