Thanks for posting this, I couldn't believe that PH gave this death such little attention. I haven't been a fan of Michael Jackson since I was 10 (1985) but as soon as I heard this, I was ready to set aside all of the horrible stuff about him and just remember his talent.

How old is Perez? Maybe if you only remember the "Bad" and after bad MJ, it is hard to understand the lightning bolt he was before that.

Three things:

1) Perez has always reminded of a kid from middle school, a fat mean queen who sucked up to all of the popular kids and said incredibly mean things about them behind their backs. I honestly don't think he recognizes that he is doing anything wrong, although the events of this week may have changed that.

2) I will admit that I wondered similar things about MJ when the first reports came out. I thought he was trying to get out of the London gigs for medical reasons. He did similar things before. That may make me a bad person, so there you go....

3) I'm sad that MJ has passed on and probably from some form of self-abuse (long tewrm drug use, etc.) He was an amazing artist in his prime.

Perez Hilton is a douche, but I don't think what he said about Michael Jackson "faking it" isn't really that out of the realm of possibility.

He's feigned illness more than a few times to get out of concert and court dates. That actually was the first thing I thought when I heard he was taken to the hospital.

And yes, we should all celebrate his talent and his music (I just burned a copy of "Thriller" to listen to in my car tomorrow morning on my way to work), but come on. Just because he's dead doesn't mean he wasn't a pedophile who paid off his victims one by one.

It must be noted that MJ never sued the journalist over the publication of this book, despite his penchant for bullying litigation... But RIP!

@ellagood: Absolutely, mate. After reading so many neanderthilic racist comments on his site (only read it for a couple of weeks), I got wind of dlisted and never looked back. I've said it before, but Michael K has the right amount of snark, but he also snarks himself at the same time. But, when a celebrity is seriously ill or passes away, he's endearingly respectful. He's honestly one of my favourite bloggers, because he loves how trashy he is :)

@whupassmaster: You can't choose when you die. MJ didn't wake up yesterday and say, "Hey, Farrah Fawcett's sick, isn't she? I'll just have a heart attack to steal her thunder." In fact that was probably the last thing he wanted, since he wished to be a child forever. Also, I think the reason he got more press is because 1) He was young and not sick. Ed McMahon was nearing 90, Farrah Fawcett had cancer 2) Most of the people who decide what goes on TV are in their 30s-50s, which was when MJ was popular. Farrah Fawcett was at her prime in the 70s. The older people might remember her, but the younger ones won't.

@Britt Smith: I grew up in the 60's/70's, and I remember MJ when he was still an adorable, talented African-American boy, before he became the mentally unstable white pedophile he died as. I cried over Farrah's death, as she was a beautiful, talented lady who harmed no one. MJ, not so much.
