Phyllis, which two lines are you talking about? That whole freaking article destroyed me.

Except this, which just made me giggle:

"Science can do what natural selection never would have done," Mr. Busch said. "She never would have dated me."

Which is more abhorrent, those who aspire to have their nuptials announced in the Times, or reality show whores?

Well to do society douches versus nouveau-celebs -- sounds like an interesting cage match to me.

Wonderful job as always, Phyllis. And yes, congratulations to Messrs. Davis and Busch. And yes, screw you, NY Senate, excepting the divine Sen. Diane Savino from the Isle o' Staten, for her heroic and moving speech this week- where we lost the fight for now.

An aside, annoying: The BBC and NPR are atizzy about the appointments of an Episcopal gay bishop today. "Controversial!" But they never come out and say that the reason it's controversial is because a vocal minority just hates gay people. This isn't explained in radio reports, but it would be so helpful if it were put in such plain, stark terms.

This is why it's news, this is why it's an issue: saying it's a 'controversy' just means a favoring of the bigots' point of view without explanation, or opposing comment, I found deeply annoying today. Tell us EXACTLY why it's a controversy. Just say it. As Lord of the Sith beckons them to Rome..

@Baroness: If I were gay I would start discriminating against straight people. I would try to keep my discrimination aimed at bigoted assholes, but if a few fag hags get caught in the glitter crossfire so be it.

For as ebulliently joyful as the Davis/Busch nuptials seem, I've gotta give my tip of the hat to the old folks getting together more than half a century after they first met. If that doesn't say "eternally hopeful", I don't know what does.

Reading about Oliver and Schumacher make me wonder if they should've been married to each other in the first place. Or maybe that's just the way stories like theirs tend to get written.

I've got to say I've noticed that musicians are often the worst music reviewers ever. It's nothing but pat phrases, lack of insight and often a startling lack of an idea of what makes music, work.

@jasonelias: Rolling Stone still hasn't figured this out. Those "Best (whatever) Of All Time" listicles they put out every year or so are always partially written by musicians, and those blurbs are always embarrassing to read (yes, even by RS standards).

@Superawesomerad: Very true, it's amazing how a musician can't articulate what they like about an influence. Weird I can't really think of one good one.

Err, we ARE talking about the editorial page of the freaken' Wall Street Journal, correct? As a launchpad to suggest that bringing in people not on the masthead is a bad idea?

My mother used to say that "marriage is basically legalized prostitution" and that if she hadn't had kids, she never would have bothered getting married.

Oh, Ashley. I'm sure you are regretting selling the poon to random strangers but it's too late. What you should have done is found some athlete or sugar-daddy to sucker. P.S. opening your mouth to the tabloids for $500,000 beats screwing pot-bellied, balding, middle-aged johns any day of the week.
