Also in attendance was Don Abrams, that clump of organic and inorganic material Dan Abrams has sewn to his scalp. Reached for comment, Don said (as usual), "You can even swim with me!"
I just think of Dan as a self-hating bald man. Is it weird that I'm fixated on that? The fact that his hairline has mysteriously slid forward quite a bit since he first hit the mediatainment scene during the OJ trials?
The made-up concoction "Mediaite" is like drunkenly pinching the buttocks of the English language in a dive bar during the wee hours of the morning, but "Styleite" is straight-up GHB-ing it and date-raping it.
Could it be they wanted "Mediaite" to resonate with "Meteorite"?
{{{shudder}}}
Kinda works though -- something that comes screaming down from space, a firey fameball that simply burns up upon hitting the atmosphere.
Styelite sound like something the opthamologist would use on you.
Geekosystem: In some countries people are shot for creating words like this, and their parents are forced to pay the costs of scrubbing it from the internet.
@Uncle_Billy_Slumming: I sincerely have no idea how you're supposed to pronounce "Mediaite."
"Medi-AAAIGHT," like Ali G wood?! "Medi-ATE"?! "Medi-IGHT"?! "Medi-ehh-ee-TEH", French-fried style?! Maybe it's a moot point since I doubt there are actual living persons who interact in person with other living persons and feel compelled to mention the name of this site in an actual conversation.
FYI, I have been contacted by Abram's people. They want me as a commenter -- exclusive, of course.
The offer: (i) an irrevocable star; (ii) unlimited use of exclamation points in my comments; and (iii) the right to motorboat a certain chesty editor/employee once a quarter.
@Swifter: Thank you, kind sir or madam. Given the thunderous applause, I'm just glad I didn't go with the more geological but less hilarious "Hematite."
@AzureTexan: There are so many fitting "-ites" in the geological world, aren't there? Biotite - for all your medical blogging needs! Muscovite brings you all the latest happenings in sunny Moscow! Goethite - keeping you up to date on your favorite German author (Goethe-Watch: Still Dead)!
