    @If_I_Had_a_Poodle: I was really hoping that this thread would turn into a funeral commemoration about the good-olde days when AOL gobbled up Time Warner. I was working for the Fortune Group (which is part of Time Inc.) in 2000, at the precise moment when the merger hit, and I have some incredible stories.

    We all had stock options as part of our employee package, and were gleefully monitoring the skyrocketing stock prices. Also, in the spring of 2000, the Fortune mag publisher whisked ALL the national staff--editorial, ad sales, the whole crew, including assistants and such--on a one-week, all-expenses-paid vacation to Hawaii. (That was because the Fortune Group overtook People in ad revenue at the height of the dotcom boom, and the publisher wanted to celebrate that.)

    We all stayed in $500 rooms at the Four Seasons Manele Bay Hotel on the island of Lana'i. Everyone had rooms with an ocean view and got comped spa treatments. It's only 9 years ago, but it feels like it happened in some kind of mythical, fairy tale realm.

    The part I don't understand is where the eeeevil Kenyan gov't, gifted with the prescience to plant an extra-terrestrial, vat-raised alien clone, lo 40 years ago, whilst using time travel to insert birth notices in two HA newspapers and using sleeper HA civil servants to slip in a "short" birth certificate, then just for giggles, naming it "Barack Hussein", can't also use their Witch Mountain technology to also put the "long" birth certificate.
    Because all the time-traveling, Area-51 using, human clone raising, sleeper agent staffing, Kenyan Secret Service agents that I know are professional enough to go the final mile and take care of such details.
    We really should give them their due. They may be Kenyan civil servants, but they're hard-working Kenyan civil servants.
    It's because "Birthers" hate The Government, isn't it?

    @Mediahohoho: And as long as we stick to our archaic belief that standardization across our country = too much power for the feds, then our elections, our records, every damn point of comparison we have in our country will always be held up to scrutiny. Case in point: Gore v. Florida, 2000.

    Poppycock. If true, then why didn't they say this in the first place? And why can't they produce the microfilm or scan? Slim chance some Hawaiian administrator didn't farm the document archiving to their brother-in-law.

    It used to be that Americans could usually agree upon what reality was and perhaps what the country's issues, strengths, weaknesses or problems may have been.

    Some disagreement in how to deal with these are where parties, philosophies and individual politics would divert.

    It seems these days most sides can't even agree on what reality is.
