    This is addictive.

My column on Tu B'Shevat in our synagogue's newsletter got a 41, grade level 9 from Writing Tester.

A contract I wrote for investment management services got an 18, grade level 13.

A brief I wrote for district court got a 31, grade level 10. I credit LawProse for that last one!

I guess all of this only serves to prove that George W. Bush is no Joan Didion..

Who among us can honestly say he or she is Joan Didion?

And now pops must live with being "George W. Bush's father" for the rest of his.

The essay might have received a higher grade had it not been composed in crayon.

It appears that for Writing Tester, you get a higher grade score if you use more punctuation. When I entered the first verse of Biz Markie's "Just a Friend," just as free verse (as it's listed on a lyrics site) it came out:

    Readable score: 18

    Grade level: 14

When I added correct punctuation (as correct as it could be, considering the material):

    Readable score: 69

    Grade level: 4

I therefore submit that Biz Markie is not the genius we all thought he was.

@Anthony_Underscore: I mean, a LOWER grade score if you use more punctuation.

My conclusion regarding Biz Markie still stands.
