As an ex-attorney who was fortunate enough to avoid the sinkhole that is divorce litigation, reading this account corroborates my advice to prospective clients: your biggest adversary will be the person in the mirror.

Divorce brings out the worst in people. And then amplifies and distorts it. Oh, and the attorneys on both sides? Tragically, they typically do nothing but fan the flames of that conflagration.

    Good times....

Note the M. Berkov copied at the end. Bad and expensive news. Berkov is an out-of-control control freak who has trashed more custody cases than anyone. Brash and devoid of common sense she also married her therapist. Actually, she reminds me of Susan Polk, but with less manners.

@Curves: I think the term should be "You never really know someone until you completely reject their companionship then declare war on their personal assets." (Throw in children if your completely vicious)

Divorce ain't pretty. Neither is making an enemy. Yet, I somehow doubt someone as an enemy is their true form.

More power to the people who can get through it clean.

@Paul_Is_Drunk: It doesn't reveal one's true form, but it does reveal a great deal about their character in ways no other form of personal interaction can elicit.

@CraigJW: I have never thought of divorce as personal interaction, but I guess youre right. Its also the form of interaction that will make you least likely to ever marry again. Unless youre a glutton for punishment or something.

While I have to chide him for his "morals" (such a good Catholic he is) I do have to point out that first wife has the best revenge: she gets half his money and had sex with him when he was Mad Max. Octo-wannabe gets the dried-up, boozy duffer version.

It's kinda funny that his favorite comedians, The "3 Stooges" are jewish, and that he is beginning to look a bit like one of them...er, actually 2 of them. I see a touch of Larry and a smidgen of Shemp in that photo. He just needs a little hair grease to make the transformation complete. I'm not very religious, but to quote Psalms 94....

Consuming hatred for Mel Gibson. If there was ever a time to bring back the blacklist, it would be for him. That whole "evil in the guise of handsome" thing. He must be an awfully good Catholic, because I can think of no other reason someone so ugly inside has been so ridiculously successful, plus ends up with hot young babe at the end.

@AuntPenny: that was complete & total sarcasm. I have a very old-school Catholic mother-in-law who believes I am destined for hell (being a Jew) and have corrupted her totally-being-led-to-the-flames son, and had we not met, he would of course also be worth $900 mil and be world-famous, yadda yadda. The whole "traditional Catholic" irrational crap that Mel espouses is an insult to the Catholics I do know who are normal, kind, and reasonable.

@FormerEnglishMajor: Ah, I gotcha. I'm a Catholic (semi-practicing, agnostic Catholic, critical of the church), and while I think there are HUGE problems in with the church, I also will never fully leave it.

    ANYWAY! Apologies all around.

Mel's just plain messed up, period. I know a lot of people who really admired him and thought he was the bee's knees. They were also staunch Catholics. I used to warn them that nobody is perfect and Mel is hardly a saint. That was years ago. Ha ha.

@AuntPenny: After the ecclesiastical incidents of the last several years, your assertion kind of raises the question of what would cause you to leave the church.

A thought experiment: Just how bad would it have to get before you said, "Okay, enough. You know what, maybe the Methodists are on to something over there"?

@skahammer: I ask my husband this ALL THE TIME. Like all the Catholics I know (save my MIL), he is basically an Episcopalian (if that) but of course after a couple of decades in Catholic school he finds it hard to call himself anything else. Despite the fact that he rarely goes to church, believes in birth control, etc. etc.
