As we discussed today, I am commenting here to correct a significant error in your timeline above about the link you insinuate between Jill Nash's departure from Yahoo as head of PR and the email from Ms. Sykles to new CEO Carol Bartz asking to take action about a leak.

You basically are saying Nash was fired by Bartz, because she was the leaker of a document related to Skyles' employment at Yahoo that was obtained by an outside reporter.

Essentially, in your telling, Bartz got the email from Skyles in the morning and then fired Nash by the afternoon.

Since I broke the story of Nash's departure, I can tell you this could not be more incorrect, simply because I had heard about the possibility of her leaving weeks before and was working on confirming it (these rumors happen all the time at Yahoo, so I always take time to make sure--since saying someone is thinking of leaving is usually a non-story).

I was working on the story over the weekend, which was pretty much decided by Nash by Sunday and was just waiting to see, from my many sources, if it was a done deal Monday to publish.

I am also certain that Nash's leaving was a surprise internally.

Given the flux at Yahoo, who knows what her fate--or the fate of any exec there--would be if she had stayed. But, in this case, based on my reporting, Nash walked out the door rather than being pushed.

It is not nearly as exciting as your telling, but life is often like that!
