    When I was a kid, I had an early Casiotone electronic keyboard. If you pushed certain buttons, it would play background tracks that sounded exactly like these.


    It's fun to see that music technology hasn't changed at all since then.

    Key-rist. Theoretically I could appreciate the software as a decontextualizer of the overly familiar, like a good mash-up or a brave cover. But the results are just shit--they exist in an uncanny valley between "not good enough to be good" and "not awful enough to be funny."

    I was listening to the news on NPR whatever day this week it was that Microsoft was announcing the layoffs and all the commentary was in this kind of tone of stunned disbelief, "In an unprecedented historical gobsmacking shock, MICROSOFT is being forced to LAY OFF WORKERS! ZOMG! Who could have known that the recession would have such catastrophic and far-reaching consequences?!"


    Maybe I'm crazy, but has their been a time in our lives when Microsoft didn't embody everything shoddy, overhyped, under-tested, and poorly thought out? The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck, it'll be a vacuum cleaner.

    @VoxPopuli: Those are THE WORST commercials/song re-dos ever! We happen to watch a lot of cartoons in my household, and that damn ad seems to play every 5 minutes. Arg!
