I have to appreciate Jason Calcanis's loyalty. Not many would do that.

However, i can tell you that in terms of loyalty that if the situation were reversed I would be staying with Josh in ethiopia and have use of one of his camels.

Enjoyed both the Salkin piece and the commentary above. I'd like to, if I may, add a bit of conjecture to the comparison between Harris and Anton "Nuke'em" Newcomb.
I would not say Anton's Icarus complex has been the cause of his trail of failures but rather his long history of addiction, coupled with pathological narcissism. He's an expert bridge-burner and his band, while still limping along, changes personnel every 6 months or so because not even musicians can put up with Anton's assholery. They play gigs but I seriously doubt they make any money except to cover their touring.
In fact Anton moved to Iceland (sic, the island country by the North Pole) last year, because he was essentially homeless and had fucked over so many people in LA over the years that his only exit route was to take an Icelandic fan up on her offer to house and clothe him. She probably got tired of him too, since I hear he's back in LA at the moment.
So in that sense, Dig! didn't really make that much of a diff in the long run. Also, Anton hates Timoner with incandescent passion and has been badmouthing her ever since the film came out. (In other words he has demonstrated zero gratitude.) It'd be interesting to see if Josh Harris feels equally "betrayed" once the doc hits.

I have no idea who these people are and have no interest in learning about them at the moment, but I still enjoyed this comment!

We Live in Public is an amazing film, and if you were in New York City in the 90s/silicon alley days you will feel as if someone did a documentary about your life. Ondi is a brilliant, brilliant film maker.
DiG won Sundance and is one of the top 10 docs ever made, and We Live in Public won Sundance--making ondi the only person to ever win Sundance twice.
Most folks who have seen DIG and We Live in Public believe We Live in Public is the better film.... both are in my top 20 docs of all time.

'Howard and Mel (Karmazin) looked at us,' Josh emailed me. 'Howard claimed Pseudo's asking price was too high. Mel did not want to invest in the future. We didn't smell right to two seasoned professionals.'

Right now you have Adam Carolla setting all kinds of records doing podcasts after getting fired from radio... ironically after taking Howard's slot here in Los Angeles.
.... and Howard is leaving XM/Sirius shortly.

again, no offense to Tumblr... it's cool, just not ground breaking... which Josh was on many, many levels.
Josh was also a fool on many levels.... thus the split decision you'll see on his career.
the movie is really well done... see it and you'll understand.
