"What we have is something perilously close to a dictatorship of the Fed and the Treasury, acting in the interests of Wall Street," observes economic author Robert Kuttner.
Geithner is merely the front-man du jour while "jobs" like the $5.2 million part time (ha!) gig are merely devices for dispensing the payoffs.
@Almostbanned: He said that women weren't as likely to become top scientists due to inherent differences. He wasn't railroaded. He made these batshit comments, which are just as "scientific" as evolutionary psychology (think: Pinker), and offered as proof something to the effect that his daughter preferred certain toys. He also largely dismissed the role bigotry, culture, etc. plays. It was just dumb as fuck.
@Andalucía: Er...I really DON'T want to defend Summers at all, but he was talking about a study that showed that women aren't equally represented in the super high scorers on math and science proficiency exams. These super higher scorers are rare statistical outliers, and they are mostly men.
This is a real study, and the data is actually quite good. Where Summers fucked up was in his analysis of the study, and in using this data to make a larger argument about women in math and science.
The reality is that, outside of the super high score outlier group (which is very, very small), women perform just as well as men on math and science proficiency exams.
Read that to me again. There is a 32-year-old Texan pal of Rove's (more likely son of a pal of a Rove) handing out the last $60 billion? It must seem like chump change to them after the crash. It's a lot of money to the rest of us. Credentials, please, before yet another winner of the lucky sperm club drives the country deeper into debt.
@registered: Don't worry, he has an impressive background. He helped keep the well-oiled machine of Iraq nation-building running smoothly as Exec Sec of the Coalition Provisional Authority. So he's used to handing out billions in a most productive manner.
As a follow-up to your ad for Klonopin, let me assure everybody I am not in control of a car but in full control of my senses. Bah is taken at gmail. I am disappointed. So I'm staying here at Gawker. God bless the USA, etc.
P.S. Wait. Did I really say that? On Gawker? Um. Maybe I can take the Clonazepam out.
@JessicaLovejoy is confused by this feeling of pride: That's just unfair. I had to close this window, open a dictionary, close it (word not found), and I still don't know what cromulent part means. Jessica, I don't think that feeling you're feeling is pride. Sounds like lust. Get in line!

Economists with no natural notion of empathy are very, very dangerous.
