@ninety_nine: Thanks, Nic(k). The usual! Harry Knowles, the Coventry Telgraph ([blogs.coventrytelegraph.net]), etc. Pretty much every single one was positive.
@Foster Kamer: Dude, I haven't heard of this guy. Maybe if y'all stole his stuff more, I'd think of him as a usual. I mean, going after Peter Travers for being a quote-a-matic was weaksauce in 1995. How about helping a brother (well, okay, an old) on who the new crop of Walter Monheits are?
@ninety_nine: Most of the reviews on this page of Rotten Tomatoes are the early ones: [www.rottentomatoes.com]
It's CHUD, JoBlo, Ain't it Cool, SciFi Wire, Hitfix, etc...
@tell Dolly Parton again: this is not a snarky question -- I know Entourage parodied Ain't It Cool like five years ago, and saps for pull quotes, meh, we know it's done, but does that guy still have any influence at all? It's not like he's going to get or dissuade fanboys from going. Isn't the (ostensible) story about Twitter effecting first weekend? What's the Twitter buzz?
I knew this film was in trouble when I started to see the new posters released in the last few weeks.
Okay, so Sienna Miller plays the "Baroness" and is clad in a skin-tight leather outfit. Everyone on earth who saw the preview or posters knows this. Holy crap that’s hot.
So now, these new posters: They have her doing an over-the-shoulder "look at my ass" pose. Good lord. How desperate is that? Like you need to hammer home the point? She’s already in leather and you need to remind us that she has an ass.
Lordy. Desperate.
"G.I. Joe wasn't screened for critics because Paramount wanted to market the movie to Middle Amerikkka without being judged."
any reason America is spelled so incorrectly? Might want to edit that.
No matter how bad this movie may be it is no where near as bad as "Synecdoche, New York," which critics loved.
That said, the story is so so , the dialogue is lame, a lot of stuff gets blowed up really really good, most of the actors are hot to look at and the CGI credits ran longer than the movie.
You can apply this review to any big budget summer movie.
@badasscat: It's true this particular review was a kinda phoned-in, but Kyle Smith is usually a spectacularly funny smartypants critic, especially when he HATES movies. He's my secret Republican crush--oy, I even follow his blog..
@itsthereal: Ten will be nominated. One will survive. I can't wait until Dark Horses start winning Oscars after studios mount totally insane campaigns. Maybe the viral G.I. Joe Oscar Campaign will involve the arbitrary detonation of baguettes across the greater West Hollywood region.
