    For the love of god, I hate reading bullshit like this. It makes the public think that prison is a country club and it is nothing close to that for the 2+ million people our country has locked up in human warehouses.


    The people I know and work with in county and state facilities don't even have motherfucking pillows. You're lucky if you can borrow the one fucking newspaper being shared among 200+ people shoved into a gym together in triple bunkbeds, there's certainly no fucking internet.

    @freedc: If it helps, I don't believe prison is like this for 99.99% of the population that's not incredibly wealthy and privileged. Does that make you feel a little better.


    Of course, my mental image of prison is basically Shawshank Redemption, so, that shows you my grip on reality. But I was definitely surprised by the e-mail access.

    @DahlELama: Shawshank Redemption is actually a very accurate portrayal of a prison, so you kindof have a pretty good idea of it.


    Our prison system is such a fucking sad mess and stories like this out of Camp Cupcake make things worse because it rightfully pisses people off but makes them think this is how every incarcerated person lives, and it isn't even close.

    @BookishLookish: I'm still stunned he didin't get a pardon out of Bush at the 11th hour. I've met Conrad (through work) a couple of times, and - if possible - he is even more arrogant, obnoxious, and completely self-centered than you imagine. He really does believe he does everything right and as for the rest of us "ur doin it rong". I believe he is a psychopath like Madoff. Truly does not care about others.

    The lovely irony in all this (for Canadians) is that Black gave up his dull Canadian citizenship so he could be in the British House of Lords. If he had still been Canadian he could have taken advantage of a US-Canada agreement and served his time in Canada, and out of jail a lot earlier. It could only get better if someone at his prison would make him their bitch... if it hasn't already happened.
