I understand all of this except the "millions in stock options" and "in an office." I do like some of my co-workers, but if I get seven zeros in my bank account all they're going to see of me is the back of my head as I dance out the door.
@VoxPopuli: I find that for myself, I agree. There were for a time a number of Early Internet millionaires at my current office, still plugging away. They were all good people, but I did have a difficult time fully understanding their motives. I've come to the conclusion that for some, perhaps many, people that come into new money in this manner, it is just plain luck, as is often espoused by those that don't have it in places like this. On the other hand, for people like we're discussing that continue to work, I think it really is about the work and making the next great thing, the money really is secondary.
And yes, I have taken this armchair analysis to its logical conclusion, realizing that should things work out in my situation, I'll be among the "lucky quitters" group. However, maybe I'll keep at it in order to deflect the impression of that idea in others. Perhaps that says something about the folks in the other group that I know now, but I doubt it. I think they're the real deal.
So once again, a major New York Post "scoop" is completely fu--ing wrong. And yet they're stuff still constantly gets picked up. The Jacko in Berry Gordy's crypt story was also B.S.
