The main difference? American hypochondriacs had to pay cold, hard cash, while those who conked their conks in Canuckistan got off with nothing more than a note "nutcase" in Latin on their medical charts. My mother was in Canadian Medical Records for 19 years, I know what I'm talking about.

I still think it's better to be safe than sorry. In addition to death and brain damage, one could suffer from severely impaired judgment.

Then again, a head injury isn't necessary for some to exhibit this same behavior.

Why call Bruce Willis' casting scam "scuzzy" when the film industry as a whole was built on and is sustained by "scuzz"? You really need to be schooled about Errol Flynn and Charlie Chaplin? Didn't think so.

Didn't I read somewhere that Stallone used to get modeling catalogues and pick out his dates? It seems like this is the preferred method of dating for aging action star scumbags.

I'm really glad that Natasha Richardson and/or her family made the organ donation decision -- I wondered about that last week, and knew that she was a generous and charitable woman just like her mother. I don't think it's any of our business, really, this specific instance -- but if hearing this news makes people remember the need for organ donations in general, then good.

(Although I take any Page Six report with a grain of salt.)

I'm pretty sure that Richardson fell on Monday afternoon, around the same time Gupta's wife was giving birth, not the day after.

@VoxPopuli: Also, I have to add that I don't understand why people think this post is snarky. I guess if I had been watching CNN's coverage of this story and hadn't seen their main medical correspondent - a brain surgeon no less - pop up until several days after the fact, then I might wonder why.

Yeah, it's not the most interesting topic, at least to me, but Gawker does sometimes still cover the media and this would fall into that category.

The "killing him" part I'm guessing was just an unfortunate choice of words, not an intentional pun.

Broadway also dimmed its lights on Wednesday night fo Ron Silver.

BTW, I'm so glad you're doing this roundup. Theater could use the online exposure.

This post is just plain bizarre. And not in a good way. I can see trying to come up with a unique, "inter-web edgy" way of announcing the birth, but this isn't the way to do it.

Just a comment on the all the doctors saying she could have been saved had she received prompt medical attention. What a bunch of dicks. I don't think there could be a better way to make the family feel worse. Way to go doodz.

@Kitten_Witawip: I agree. No one knows, of course. However, I do think, while discussing this incident, doctors should encourage people to get medical attention as soon as possible after a head injury and to wear helmets when participating in sports. When they say these things though, it is going to sound like they are finding fault with Natasha's actions.

@downlow: @Kitten_Witawip: Montreal & area doctors are using this incident to lobby for medivac helicopters from the province. Tremblant is about 3 hours from Montreal and if they could get there quicker "maybe" they could have saved her.

On the other hand, they do have the service in Alberta, but if you are evacuated by helicopter and after the fact your injuries are not considered life threatening, you are personally on the hook for the service, which is about $900 or so. Maybe not an issue for someone like Natasha, but a lot of skiers turn down the service when it's recommended because they don't want to be stuck with the bill. (I learned this direct from the ski patrol at Lake Louise where I was being treated for my-broken-wrist-while-snowboarding accident. I had a helmet, just forgot my wristguards that day :S )

@kewlkat: Gawker, at its best, gives us access to people on the scene such as yourself. Thanks for some interesting facts.

As for coulda, woulda, shoulda: yes, they might have been able to save her if there was a CT scan and a neurosurgeon standing by at the first hospital they took her to, but events such as this one are generally clearer when seen through a rear view mirror.

    Thinking of the family today...
