    @alorsenfants: Yes it's a beeeyootiful day here in NYC. Nice and crisp in the mid 60s and not a cloud in the sky. Or what I can see of the sky from my window. I face another building and can kind of get a glimpse of sky in the reflection if the sun is hitting the windows just so. Yup, a glorious day!

    This is nothing. I had to endure 2 black helicopters on what seemed to be a major manhunt on Friday night. The copters are straight out of Enemy Of The State.


    Do we ever hear about WHY this was going on? nothing. zip.

    @Smitros: They had some guy knifing people on Clinton and Houston and the helicopters were around for a while. I forget if it was Friday, but I think Gothamist reported it (which is rare, those helicopters are always buzzing Avenue D looking at people).

    come on, we can't honestly be expected to believe that a photo was the reason for this flight. Its not like you need supersonic fighter jets to keep up with an airliner.


    They were practicing scrambling jets for a rogue plane or something. but why not just tell us? this whole story line seems like The Onion or something. Or maybe 1984.

    @mazewalker: They don't use one of only two custom-built VC-25's in existence to practice "scrambling for a rogue plane". The government has plenty of bog-standard old-ass 737's and other cheap junk available for that.

    I know this isn't going to be a popular opinion, but I think it was totally worth it to capture these priceless photographs. When people fifty years from now open up history books to see what presidential aircraft looked like circa 2009 they'll get to see this gem.

    A photo of the plane sitting on a runway would have accomplished that, as would a picture of it flying over a corn field in the Midwest. So you can sort of see why your opinion is unpopular, no?
