    Eh... Bullshit, Gangsta rap has been dead since the mid 90's when Tupac died. Gangsta rap was mainly a 90's L.A. thing,with Newyork and the midwest always being the conscious source with A Tribe Called Quest, Common(ha!), De La Soul, and more. When West Coast died, and then New York thrived for the rest of the 90's decade, and the ironic thing is with the 90's East Coast Conscious/Party, and West Coast Gangsta/Party, the west coast falling off spurred more conscious alternative self aware rappers in West coast.

    But back to the topic. Bling rap isn't dead, it just got replaced by wimp rap more suited for suburban kids(Kudi, Degrassi Drake, Kanye) which is all still about cars, money, and hoes with the exclusion of violence and drugs. In the case of Kid Cudi it's a different story... and I'm not getting into that, buy his album(Real good, no money, cars and hoes)

    Hip-Hop is dead, and it has been reared it's head in that dead zone, by becoming pop, with Drake being touted as it's recent savior I fear for the genre but await it's death. Even KRS1 said the shit is dead, take it of the life support, and explore other genres.

    @Albert Samuel:
    You're not necessarily wrong, but I'm not sure I completely agree.

    The fact is that hip-hop has ALWAYS had both the gangsta side and the conscious/backpacker side... In the 90s when NY was producing De La and Tribe, there was also a TON of hardcore acts from the east coast. Mobb Deep, MOP, The Firm, The LOX, Naughty By Nature, Flipmode, etc.

    I will say though that today's Atlanta sound is pretty much 100% thugged out.

    The only reason why some of the rappers aren't hollering about their rims/cars/money is because that type of music stopped selling. It has nothing to do with Obama.

    What's more interesting is how hip-hop and the related genres simply aren't as bright, funny or as funky as it used to be. In a way I think a good part of the genre is gone but nothing else is ready to take its place.

    Not every occasion is deserving of snark. This is just a throwaway opinion that's just interesting enough to garner a yell over the cubicle wall.

    Putting it up here instead gets comments like Mount_Prion's, where (I'm assuming) blogreaders with somewhat less illustrious rap careers can fling some poo at a decent human being who happens to have sold some records and dated Erykah Badu.

    Give it a rest every once in a while.

    @britneyspearstears: Also confusing: Why would you stop to check your facebook in the middle of a burglary? Maybe someone knew Parker's account information and framed him. This is exactly what happened in The Net.

    While some of the other cited examples of police using Facebook to gather evidence/solve crimes seem legit, I think this one really is just about a brain dead criminal. IMHO, Facebook itself really had nothing to do with this case (i.e. Parker's profile didn't contain any incriminating information related to the burlary), and it's more about the fact that Parker is an idiot who a) used the computer in the home he was burglarizing, and b) entered personal information on that computer.

    Somewhat unrelated, but did you mean "we fear its increasingly..." or is the end of the post cut off for me?

    Twitter is this era's CB radio fad. Bored people with odd handles are transmitting their inane mutterings, using a soon-to-be-dead insider language, to an "audience" that isn't really listening because there's too much static.
