It isn't that NBC is incapable of launching a decent drama; it's that they're incapable of recognizing and supporting the good stuff. As for Southland, I've never seen anything so insane as the way they handled that. That was stupider than the CW bringing back Seventh Heaven after it had ended.
NBC, excepting two half-hours on Thursday, is dead to me. #jayleno

And, sorry, but I never see Leno without remembering back in the days when live dinosaurs roamed around "The Comedy Store" in L.A. and Jay did a stand up there. He apparently visited the restroom prior to coming on stage and failed to shake Mr. Happy enough to completely dry him. It was hard to focus on his enormous chin with that wet spot just above eye level. #jayleno

Unfortunately, doing that with the shape these two are in right now could just exacerbate the whole situation. It's like building a ship in a bottle and then realizing that you forgot to build it inside the bottle. #jayleno

I think they're waaayyy to afraid of middle America. That contingent that can't handle not seeing Jay Leno in some form. I mean goodness, the local news affiliates are complaining because these folks tend to turn off the TV and go to bed once Jay is done, and not stay up for the local newscasts. I really can't see why the network would marginalize everyone in this way. Seems lazy. How hard can it be to go through the copious scripts and find something that works, that isn't a cop/hospital/EMT/legal drama with mediums, ghosts, or reality simpletons? And if the new "V" rocks on ABC, when it was shown on NBC in the first place, then there really is no hope for those who make decisions at that place. #jayleno

I loved Letterman before he moved to CBS. Now? You know, sex scandal aside I could barely watch any of his CBS shows.
The point of my response is any discussion of late night TV that does not acknowledge the homogeneity of the playing field right now ignores the larger picture.
I’ve been more entertained by comedy & cute animal videos on YouTube. Seriously. #jayleno
