@Addicted To Chocohol: Why, when I was a kid, we drove Chevrolet Celebrity station wagons! With rust spots on the fake-wood door panels! And WE LIKED IT THAT WAY!
Oh, and whoever was the ground reporter for Fox News was a moron. She reported, on air, the rumor that was the driver was Chris Brown because she heard it from some random guy at the barricade.@Ian Hamilton:
I love how the judge takes a hearty sip from a fastfood drink container while the juice is waitin' for the news -- presumably from the tri-state's (CA-NV-AZ) most premiere fast foodery In n' Out Burger.
Can I just say that OJ has dissolved on my Pop Culture meter to the point that I just can't work up the energy to make an argument about anything he does anymore.
1) He got arrested for stealing his Heisman -- meh
2) He's going to trial for stealing his Heisman -- meh
3) He's getting time for stealing his Heisman -- meh
4) White people are happy about this -- meh
5) Black people are meh about this (because most everyone on the planet, even those who were seen jumping up and down 14 years ago, at this point think he did it, or thinks he knows who did.) -- meh
6) OJ helped someone write a book report -- meh, wait, really?..no, sorry, meh.
End result:
I'd like to have never ending soup, salad, and breadsticks from the Olive Garden, now. Thanks.
"Our long national nightmare of not seeing justice done in one high-profile crime is over!"
Wrong. Justice in the Brown/Goldman murder is *not* done. What has happened here is justice in a robbery is done. That can never stand-in for justice in the murders.
@alexburrito: why do you care? i don't believe it, and you obviously don't believe it, but he was found not guilty. go fucking volunteer at a battered women's shelter instead of read gawker if you're that bugged? or get a law degree and fight to keep similar people off the street! maybe become a cop and be very good at not tainting evidence? there's about a thousand things you can do, if oj's dismissal after the complete disaster that is the lapd handled the case really bothers you this much.
in the world we live in with the people who have been running this country (and the point made earlier that oj is one in about 80 billion cases like this in the world) why on earth do ppl still get so het up about oj simpson singularly?
This isn't karma. It's a trumped-up case. The prosecutors in the criminal murder trial failed to prove their case to the jurors, period. That doesn't mean the guy should serve a long prison term for some Keystone Kops-style BS "armed robbery" like this.
I think he's been getting his karma already - the man looks like he's aged several lifetimes in the past decade. People call him a murderer in public and he's completely reviled. I do think he killed his wife. But unless someone is a friend or family of the murder victim, I don't get the public's thirst for revenge in a case that's more than 10 years old.
@VoxPopuli: If only that were true. When I saw him (and granted, this was years ago) he was hanging out with hot groupies and being asked to pose for pics and sign autographs. Rough.
Even if he hadn't committed murder- he was a freaking wifebeater! I love how that huge fact, that his was just one in thousands of spouse-turned-killer cases in America every year, got lost amid the celeb and race issues.
@HeatherNumber1: I agree on that issue. The case for me wasn't about race or celebrity. The acquittal upset me at the time because it always seemed to me to be a textbook case of abusive ex-husband turns killer.
But sending him to prison now for some trumped-up robbery doesn't solve anything or set any legal precedent that can help keep abused spouses safe. And it smacks of ugly motives that I do think are related, at least to some extent, to race and celebrity.
The stuff about the groupies sucks. I guess he must still have plenty of money lying around.
