There has never been AC at Ramah, or anything even close to luxury for that matter. Trust me. We actually had a non-elective that was basically summer school. I think the socialist camp you're thinking of is Camp Kindering.
@gherkin: Oh is this going to be a battle of which little jewish kid suffered the most hardship at summer camp? Cause at Camp Eisner, we didn't even have bathrooms in the bunks.
Texas has cancelled all high school sports until May 11. This would really mean something if it was football season.
Oh, and two schools are closing in Austin because of suspected cases and my mother-in-law just called from rural Minnesota with reports of a school closing there because of a suspected case.
I'm no germaphobe but it bothers me that domestic travel is still permitted to and from Mexico (especially automobile traffic).
If all these hot spots across the U.S. which keep popping up and expanding are directly attributable to people who continue to arrive from Mexico doesn't it make sense to ban traffic till we can stamp out the hot spots in this country.
Janet Napolitano was all like "oh no too late its already here" but that is complete b.s.
If this really does turn into a pandemic the backlash against Obama for not banning travel earlier is going to be major.
I had the unfortunate need of the emergency room today and I was the only patient there not wearing a mask. It actually worked to my favor as my mere flesh wound was eagerly attended to by faux flu weary nurses who needed a break from the pandemic. I was in and out in 2 hrs while the sickies sat and waited all day!
BTW, a chick from the WHO said today - and I paraphrase - "I don't know where the fuck the media is getting their '150 dead' number from since only 7 people have died, so unless a pig has sneezed on you in the last 24 hours there's no need to panic."
i actually am embarrassed to admit that i did have the fleeting thought: fewer people looking for jobs. if i survive, maybe i'll finally make some scratch this year.
True story - life is a sexually transmitted, invariably fatal disease.
I loves me a mass-media fuelled hysteria as much as the next person. But 'pandemic' just means that a whole lot of people catch something. It doesn't mean everyone dies. Except for a zombie pandemic, clearly.
The fact is that only seven people have died from swine flu to date... small comfort though that may be for those seven and associated families/nearests and dearests...
It's transmitted through droplets, rather than airborne - so steer clear of boogers, dribble and lurgies, wash your hands well and often, and keep your fingers out of your mouth, eyes and...er... other moisture secreting body parts.
@stanleymarie: Bird flu is already mixed in with this swine flu but doesn't get top billing because it's so 2007. So, the pigs are flying. Alert Pink Floyd.
In 1918 people often died in less than 6 hours, bleeding out of every orifice, including eyeballs in some cases. If you have had a bad case of the flu in the last few years, thats actually a good thing. You may still get sick, but should not die. People who religiously get those flu-shots may be some of the most susceptible to this.
With the earth back to being flat again, overcrowded and already pestilence ridden in the thrid world, a pandemic makes sense from an evolutionary standpoint.

That's some straight-up horror film shit right there, or like something I read from a sci-fi novel. Good grief.

I vaguely remember that the idea of bleeding out of EVERYTHING was the vilest thing I'd ever read. So I read it again, of course.
Somehow, my 14-year-old self was much more okay with grossness than my current self is.
