Ah, you shoulda met her in the fall of 1972, like I did. She was most gracious and kindly and averse to being considered "famous" although she already was a staff photographer for Rolling Stone, which was like Valhalla. She walked my partner and me the half block to the train station and sat until we left, trying to make conversation with one just off the Texas prairie with not a single experience she could identify.

What a day that was. Then the train came.

Her GV townhouse wasn't simply renovated. She gutted it completely--I mean removed everything except for the exterior brick walls, and in the process, nearly destroyed the adjoining properties, not to mention violated historical preservation codes in the process. I used to live around the corner from her place, which for years had to be buttressed with structures that closed the sidewalks. Preservation groups protested the site for months. She gets what she deserves, largely for disrespecting her neighborhood, its preservation efforts, and the financial impact that a reconstruction might cost---DUH.

I remember this great Spy Magazine interview with a former intern of Leibovitz' who basically characterized her as a horribly impatient and demanding diva along with one of those fun anecdotes about getting her the wrong kind of coffee and her throwing a huge shit-fit..

And people wonder why the economy is in trouble - hello, if you don't have the money to renovate your townhouses - YOU CAN'T AFFORD THEM!

The existence of credit is not a demand that you use it to any extent.

Income must be < or = expenses. And if you can't live in a couple mil a year, you have serious issues that cannot be solved by putting Whoopi in milk.

I think wealthy Americans from LA to Portland ME are hawking everything they own as they been decimated by the drop in the economy. I read of men in Fairfield Cty CT taking out loans so they could still give their wives walking around money and not have them know that their net worth had plummeted. Makes me wish I were a divorce attorney and not a world famous ectoplasm facilitator.

too much attitude, too little compassion and common decency.

it's like Survivor in nice towns in Westchester, where EVERYONE is keeping tabs on each other, under the auspices of extending sympathy when it's nothing more than posturing.

She couldn't make 2 million per year work for her? Sounds as if Annie needs to seriously take stock of where all of her loot is going to. Financial planner, you need it.
Does anyone else find Annies work to be just...ok? Sure she has some stand-out work but the majority, to me, just seem to come in at average.
