It's a disease (probably terminal) in our culture right now. If we want something bad enough we start calling it a "need", and if we need something bad enough we start calling it a "right".

And once it's a right, someone else has to pay for it.

Clearly only an evil corporation would deny our right to molded plastic shoes!

(I get my knock off brand every year after the summer ends for $5 and they are indistinguishable from the original)

Maybe I should contact a lawyer.

I just want to write that this incident is far from representative of Bloggers in general. The post was a small anecdotal story and should be treated as such. Stories should be written about how great a community like BlogHer is.

@georgegsmithjr: Maybe if you hook us up with some shoes we'll write good stories about BlogHer. What do you say?

@daveyjonesisdead: Haha. At this point, I wouldn't even say who it was if I knew. I wouldn't want the person to benefit from the traffic. BlogHer would police this behavior out on their own - I was just writing a small something on my no-name personal blog. Never thought it would make Gawker.

@georgegsmithjr: I hear there is a twitter uprising of BlogHer mommy bloggers who started a "[redacted] hates babies" (or something) because upon bringing their very young children to an invitation-only off-site party at an adult cocktail lounge, the mommies were INCENSED that their precious genetic footprints were not welcomed in! In fact, the little darlings were outright banned (the lounge could lose its license for one thing).

Disclosure: I LOVE martini bars; I LOVE & ADORE my perfect young son. However, the two shall NEVER meet (until he is of age). Major buzz kill, IMHO, having children around lovely lovely alcohol and vice versa. There's only so much multi-tasking I can do -- when I'm on parent duty, pounding back free drinks isn't really a feasible option. Maybe there should be citations like DUI, except: PUI.

Hmmm. This is an odd story. All coverage I hear about these BlogHer conferences seem to constantly talk about how these mommy bloggers are suckers for free stuff and always praise it.

Now, it makes sense. Most non-pro bloggers are clearly shilling for comped goods.

But why the emphasis on female bloggers? There are tons of male bloggers in the tech sector who clearly love every little free piece of whatever they get. But dare point out they are shilling and you'll get shot down.

    Something odd here.

We call this odd thing of which you speak "sexism" and it's been going on since, well... even before Amelia Bloomer decided it would be a lot easier to ride a bike if she didn't wear a long skirt.

@City_Dater: What do you mean "sexism"? This incident occurred at a conference for FEMALE bloggers, and none of the follow-up commentary about the possible influence of freebies on bloggers identifies women as being any more susceptible than men.

@Xenobiologista: The reason is this trend of free-stuff-for-bloggers-equals-positive-press has never really come up before at any blog conference for any reason even though we all know it happens on blogs all the time.

But somehow this conference focused on mom bloggers comes around and this is shocking news?
