I am glad somebody cut through this bullshit and broke it down for me. Now, what is the solution to this wicked web?

Finally, I have prior knowledge of something discussed on Gawker.

I believe Monseratte tried to talk about how he didn't think said girlfriend's injuries were major because right after 'the incident', they made sweet love atop an elevated carriage bed.

[What this would mean is a deadlocked, evenly divided Senate. And no Lt. Governor, because Paterson is not authorized to appoint one, and therefore no tie-breaking votes.]

not entirely true. the senate's president pro tempore breaks the tie when there's no lt gov (even if that gives him two votes). but seeing as how there's currently a restraining order preventing Espada from acting as lt gov that means the tie breaking vote goes to the Speaker of the Assembly: Sheldon Silver.

@putch: And then if Paterson has to step down because HE's also got a prostitution problem then Silver will also become governor and finally rule all of Albany, Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha.

@DennyCrane: Actually, I'm just biding my time until everyone else is DQ'd from governing the state and it falls on me. Then I shall rule with an iron fist. Or something.

So the only State Senate Democrats who caucus with the Republicans are both crooks? At least Lieberman has the courtesy to remain a thorn without pulling the trigger.

I think the problem is the upstate 9/10s of New York state. If you got rid of it, you wouldn't have these problems.

You think maybe you could sell it to Canada? Quebec could annex it and change all the street signs to French. Tell them they can have it for real cheap.

I think these State Senate seats are about to be ripe for the taking.

I'm moving to the Bronx! Who wants to vote Prion for State Senate?

    ...anybody?

It means New York will continue to terribly lag states like Iowa in providing basic human rights while its citizens arrogantly claim it to be the most progressive place in America.

@HiredGoons: Republicans were allowing their caucus a free vote on the issue previously and the one dem who threatened to leave the party if it came to the floor for a vote didn't switch. Given that, its still very possible that it could pass this year (or at least go to a referendum).
