    @bboston88 (star please?): I don't think there's a single person in American who doesn't think the baby is his. And, yeah, I think EE has to know. I mean, come on, "the baby doesn't look like any of my kids"???? Lame! It has a different mom! Sheesh.

    Big miscalculation on Elizabeth Edwards' part. All her press ("don't mention her name") was bound to make Rielle want revenge - and this would be the final humiliation.


    Serious error in judgement - this time, on EE's part.

    @FormerEnglishMajor: That only assumes she gives a damn about his reputation, etc. I don't think she does. I think she's pissed and really, a DNA test is the last battle in this war, no? Once they find out it's his, he's named father, makes payments, and Rielle has to STFU.

    @GW06: I think she has to "give a damn", if only for her children's sake. Not too long from now, he will be raising them. Just don't see where this book gets/got EE, or why she chose to write it. It definitely wasn't for her kids' sake.

    If anyone in that wretched situation is innocent, it's certainly the child. No need to stigmatize her even more by using that outdated and judgmental term. Her own mother and Mrs. Edwards are doing a fine job of that without your help.

    Not being a father myself, I'm curious: how would he know that it isn't his? Do you just feel it inside?


    Or is he using this as an indirect accusation that his mistress sleeps around too much to remember who she conceived her child with?

    @Heliophage: Plus, back when the story first came out, his best friend owned up to an affair with Hunter and moved his wife and children to Santa Barbara to be closer to the baby that he says is his.

    Christ almighty. Let John build mills for the poor, single or married or whatever. It's unfortunate that someone's (semi-victimless) personal indiscretions can overshadow all of his public work for the impoverished, fighting big business and helping the working class.


    Yes, it's unfortunate, I feel for Elizabeth, his libido must be the bane of his existance, I'm sure the shame and guilt he feels is overwhelming.

    "It" may not look like any of her children but Elizabeth certainly knows it was most certainly whipped up with John's baby batter.


    I love that she would speak to Oprah about the situation with the caveat that Rielle's name not be uttered. I think I would do the same thing.
