Thinking about abandoning facebook too now, it's more complicated than I care for.

Truth is, the only profiles you view are:
1.) Love interests (Stalking) She thinks you're wierd and pities you. You're a pathetic sperm.
2.) Your own profile (Narcissism) Your music sucks. Movies are shit.
and perhaps
3.) Shaky social relationships (Fear, Paranoia) You shouldn't be friends with them to begin with.
I know it feels a little left out to not use facebook at certain ages, in certain areas of upper middle strata. But in reality, if that person uses facebook, are they even worth the time? They are petty, narcissistic stalkers. You're a unique, smart individual.
Honestly, having a bind? Do you feel stressed by your social life? Move. Make new friends. Believe it or not the world doesn't revolve around you and your decaying social networks.

I don't generally get attached to the way things are presented on social networking sites, but two things I am against are clutter and things that don't work. And the new Facebook suffers from both of those. I expect the things that don't work (like the "real-time" stream, which isn't) will be fixed at some point, but the clutter probably won't be since some of it is intentional. Like the graphical ads that now appear in the top right. It's a slippery slope when you add these one or two newly annoying elements in every iteration... you think "what, it's just a little tiny ad", but do that ten times, and suddenly you've got ten little tiny ads cluttering up a page. That's the route Facebook is going down.
