    I give Oprah major props for what she has accomplished because she deserves it. She built her empire from scratch, and has earned everything she owns.


    But PLEASE, Oprah, dial it down a bit. Our economy is in shambles. Most of us are watching our money very closely. A lot of the extra treats that make life fun are no longer an option. It really feels like you are rubbing our noses in your wealth and that doesn't feel good.

    I think, given her age, that Oprah might not have been admitted to Duke when she was of college age, so I don't blame her for rubbing it in their face now.

    @SultanaEleusis: she would have been of college age in the early 70s. Was Duke segregated then? It's a private school, so possibly, but somehow I don't lump Duke in with the deeper South schools.

    I don't begrudge her her riches, but her comments are particularly tone deaf.

    In all fairness, she did build her Ompire from the ground up. I don't listen to her advice, buy the crap she shills, or read her books (books, not literature) but I really do admire her for what she has accomplished. It's not her fault the bored and unfulfilled housewives of America lap it up, and would wait in line to do so.

    The "bored and unfulfilled housewives of America" watch her show because hers is one of the few shows on TV that doesn't treat women like a bunch of idiots. And in treating women with respect (imagine!) Oprah is taking it to the bank.
