I think it would behoove the President to realize that his is a well-read constituency woken up by an extremely hostile administration that basically flipped off anyone who cared about progressive causes for the previous eight years.
It's one thing to blow off (so to speak) marginalized groups like, um, dunno, let's say non-torture supporters, civil libertarians, government transparency fetishists, war opposers and, in this case, people who are gay or give a shit about the civil rights of their fellow citizens, Obama is already signaling that he's already running for his second term.
Flawed analogy -- Luckily the gays aren't agitating for all of us to eschew everything we enjoy just because their weird idea of Jesus tells them to do so...
@robrob9: Umm, fuck you. I'm sorry you don't understand why some people consider equal rights to be important, and why broken promises piss people off.
@robrob9: You mean the gays are starting to fatten up at the potluck on fried chicken, gravy, Miracle Whip, green beans in cream of mushroom soup, jello salads and pie?
Come to think of it, all of these people look suspicious:
@BBooms: I'm sorry you don't understand why gays bitching about "Don't ask, Don't tell" pisses people off, especially with all the other shit going on. You did this shit to Bill Clinton and effectively handed Newt Gingrich and rest of the GOP loonies the midterms in 1994. Did you learn nothing in the ensuing 14 years? Obama's got a lot more on his plate right now than Clinton ever did, or haven't you myopic queens noticed? Do you ever get out of the cities? Maybe you don't realize it, but to most of the country your standard-bearers right now are Bruno, Perez Hilton, Rosie O'Donnell and Barney Frank. Not exactly Mt. Rushmore material.
Obama hasn't broken any promises -- he just hasn't gotten to yours yet. You waited eight years, you can wait another few months. The country has come a long way since 1994; don't give the opposition the chance to stir up old prejudices.
I'm sorry you don't realize that people like you complaining about gays not having the same rights as heterosexual people is really tired and idiotic. The fact that these issues may not impact you directly does not mean they're not important to millions of others.
Do you not realize that your standard-bearers are people like Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin? You're an ass.
@forwardmotion: If I have a prejudice against gays it's due to your clumsy political sensibilities and nothing else. You're signaling that you're about to overplay your hand -- again -- and potentially screw things up for everyone else who, incidentally, also support your calls for equality.
I am not your enemy, you nitwits. I am a believer in equal rights for all Americans. I believe Obama will keep his promises. But I am also a realist. The gay & lesbian community needs to be prudent, be patient, and cut this bright, dynamic young president just a little slack before you start screaming that he's a liar and a traitor.
@robrob9: I never screamed he was a liar and a traitor. I haven't screamed anything. Gay people don't think and/or speak as a single unit ,for chrissakes. We aren't that united, if you've bothered to notice. It's way too diverse of a group. Stop saying, "gays shouldn't say this" and "gays shouldn't think that". It makes you sound like a prejudiced dolt. You also sound like you don't think it's a big problem, since you personally haven't suffered from this kind of prejudice. Maybe YOU are the one who should shut it.
"picking up milk on your way home from a long weekend": this is the early scene in the movie, right? Where James Franco’s character picks Harvey up at the subway stop?
Round up the gay traitors! Let the purges begin! When Americans see the "real" gay community burn Barney Frank in effigy they will understand the urgency of repealing DOMA.

What the fuck, man. People can disagree about strategy and still agree on common goals. Stupid hyperbolic name-calling may be emotionally satisfying, but it accomplishes jack shit.

Good luck with that, friend.
