In reply to The Heeb Magazine Deathwatch Starts Now (Updated)
as a 2007 Heeb 100'er, I will tell you the defining moment for me was when Heeb's Dreidel Hustler and I were tripping during Coney Island's last Mermaid Parade and concocted a master plan to get quintessential Jew Fyvush Finkel to do a spread.

Days later after his agent was contacted, it was learned that Mr. Finkel is very hardcore in his Orthodox ways and is allergic to the technology involved in photo shoots or some shit :[]

Having said that, they did let me design a lil' funtimes Flash game for them..

What a coincidence! These are exactly the sorts of things that the banks have been saying just before they join the choir invisible.

And this clip has become handy. (Substitute "Heeb" for "parrot.")

I'm sure that many other people have made this point in the past, but Heeb always seemed like a pale imitation of the excellent zine Plotz. Having said, I've haven't seen an issue of Heeb for a while, so maybe this is no longer the case.

Who ever bought an issue of Heeb?

Between Heeb, Jewcy & Jewlicious the only thing I could figure out differentiated them were what "witty" t-shirts and onesies they sold.

If they go under, how will I bribe, uh, certain people by promising to get them into the Heeb 100????

Maybe I'm just a tight-assed prig but I couldn't stomach the thought of buying another issue of Heeb after the Roseanne photo spread. There's Mel Brooks & Holocaust tomfoolery and then there's Roseanne. I have no idea why Mel's humour is absolutely hysterical and Roseanne made me want to vomit. Nonetheless, I no longer find Heeb or Roseanne remotely funny.

@kappakappaspankme: I never bought an issue, but I always appreciated that it existed. After that spread, however, the only way you'd find Heeb in my home is if I were using it to start a fire.

@DahlELama: It's rather sad, when you think about it.

Heeb seemed like an innovative approach to modern Jewish culture (for lack of a better term). If the magazine is, indeed, going under - it makes one wonder if the Roseanne bit was some bizarre way of getting attention.

@kappakappaspankme: I'd actually like to think it was doing awesomely well and then the Roseanne thing made it tank. I know it's not so, but a girl can dream.

The money for Billboard is in the charts, not the publication, if I understand it correctly. Perhaps he'll quit publishing the mag and turn it into a sales-analysis company directly marketing its services to interested parties (record companies, etc). At least that's what I would do. But then, I'm sitting on my bed in cut-offs in the middle of the day, so what do I know?

@If_I_Had_a_Poodle: I thought he is the current editor of the editorial page and held that title throughout the Bush presidency, which that page dared not (and still dares not) criticize, as it relentlessly warmongered. The editorial page used to be somewhat balanced, but under Fred Hiatt has veered sharply to the right, almost to the point of becoming unreadable, on certain days, but by neoconservative dunderheads. It may be my personal bias, but I think this has even infected some of the paper's journalism.
