In other entertainment news, Top Chef Masters debuts on Bravo tonight (10 pm eastern), and I'm hosting a new commenter live-blog of the show tonight on Gawker. So we can all can post running commentary on the show.

What's shocking about the Daley deal isn't that a 20something Freaks and Geeks alum sold a script. What's shocking is that a 20something Freak and Geeks alum sold a script that Judd Apatow isn't attached to.

John Francis Daley is not *just* from Freaks & Geeks

he plays Dr. Lance Sweets on Fox's BONES (just picked up for two more seasons)

He also sings and plays keyboard in a band called Dayplayer. Definitely sorta grown-up.

@kinneyG: He also had almost no speaking parts in a movie called Waiting until the end wherein he proceeds to have some of the funniest lines in the movie.

I'm not sure if your tone is mocking or not, because who actually watches Bones?

Jesus, will everyone leave Entourage the hell alone already? I keep reading calls for its obliteration because OH MY GOD IT MAY BE 10% LESS AWESOME THAN IT USED TO BE!

It's not that bad. It just isn't. And with so many other shows on TV to target, it's just plain silly to throw this show in with the crap pile. That's just wrong.

Whew! I was afraid that you were going to suggest Eli Stone. By default or by design, it is the only network program that I've been watching on a regular basis. It's not high-brow entertainment. But the sight of JLM mugging for the camera with starry-eyed surprise makes me grin. And Entourage has to go!

I agree with all these choices. Unfortunately, I can see why Daisies is not palatable to the mainstream. It's a high quality production though, and I applaud ABC for putting it on the air and airing it at all.

Hey, I have an easy solution. Kill Dirty Sexy Money, push back Pushing Daisies an hour, with a leadin of like, I don't know, car crashes. Cognitive dissonance! It's like ABC's little speedball.

Oh, now, now. Pushing Daisies is being done a favor by being cut down in its prime. Now we can all talk about it being gone too soon, instead of being dragged forcibly through 10 more years of cutesy whatsadoodles and gay candy cane romps.

Plus, we can be all, "I miss Pushing Daisies! I miss Firefly! I miss Freaks and Geeks! I miss My So-Called Life! I miss the first two seasons of Veronica Mars! I miss Arrested Development! Waaah waaah waaah!"

I like Pushing Daisies because of the characters, who are always great together even when I can do without the murder plots. But I'm not sure The Eternal Conundrum of the show can ever be resolved in a good way-Chuck and Ted try to get it on, she dies. They don't try to get it on, they're both horny forever.

Or they could have sex with other people. But that's not nearly as whimsical and romantic.

Tell me, why is ER still on?

Sit Coms have a shelf life of 4 years before they blow (exception may be Seinfeld which had no real story arc). Dramas can maybe do 6 years.

Cut them all off at the aforesaid deadlines.

@overunderover: The elevator told me the other day that Anthony Edwards, Clooney AND the heir to the Soul-Glo fortune were all coming back for this last season! There are obviously many exciting happenings afoot on this show that no one has cared about for the last 8 years.

@overunderover: I will defend ER til the end -- which, unfortunately, is not long from now since this is the final season. ER is unique among shows that run waaaay longer than they should. They had a few lousy seasons during which the show could've been canceled at any time and I wouldn't have grumbled. But then, about 4 seasons ago, they came back from Suckville. The characters are well-written, the actors are top-notch, and the writing is still pretty strong. I'm actually sad that this is ER's last season, but at least they're going out on a high note -- quality-wise, if not ratings-wise.

@braak: yeah, nbc's 'cast of thousands' direction was bad. if you're going to remake the original, then remake the original - a guy, his talking car, and the old guy brainiac behind it, with the random folks on the side of the road in small towns he meets along the way. none of this tons o'people involved. i was confused after watching 3 minutes of it!
