Anti-Emo Riots in Mexico, Caught on Tape!
Emo kids, those overly made-up, mopey fans of overwrought post-punk music, are annoying. But do they really deserve to be hunted down and beaten? Because that's exactly what's been happening to them in Mexico. Reports Exclaim, "the violence began March 7, when an estimated 800 young people poured into the Mexican city of Queretaro's main plaza 'hunting' for emo kids to pummel. Then the following weekend similar violence occurred in Mexico City at the Glorieta de Insurgents, a central gathering space for emos." Click for the video of violent anti-emo mobs! 'Zines: Not Totally Dead!
Remember zines? They were basically, like... personal, esoteric blogs xeroxed on paper, from way back in the 1980s and 90s. Critical Mass has an obituary of zines today. Cause of death: internet. But they're wrong! Zines are only, like, half-dead. (I even have one! On paper, yes.) There's a handful of people who still make them, similar to vinyl record enthusiasts in their weirdness. I Totally Got Punk'd Into Writing About Ashton Kutcher
The celebrity-media complex is so bizarre and strange. People get famous for no reason, or for the reason of being attractive and on TV, and the unattractive and un-famous become obsessed with them. Perhaps no one is more qualified to point out the nuances of the Faustian bargain celebrities engage in than Ashton Kutcher. Why is this guy a star? Sure, he's married to someone famous, but as an actor, the range he showed from Kelso to Dude 1 in Dude, Where's My Car? wasn't exactly Meryl Streep-esque. So his new show, Pop Fiction, tricks tabloids and blogs into writing fake stories. Zach Taylor, one of the hoodwinked bloggers, is frankly flattered to have been fooled into writing about the fake pregnancy of Avril Lavigne. And now I'm writing about Ashton Kutchner, and promoting his new show with a clip of Paris Hilton pretending to be spiritual (which we sorta covered, at the time) after the jump. That 15-million-view video where someone wrote the words to Daft Punk's "Harder Better Faster Stronger" on their fingers and performed an elaborately choreographed hand-dance to the song? AMATEUR HOUR. The comedians Barats and Bereta perform Kanye West's "Stronger" with two hands — that's "Harder Better Faster Stronger" plus Kanye's "bape shit." Oscar Batori Never Should Have Friended Us On Facebook
Famous 21 year-old image director and skinny punk Oscar Batori is living the high life, even when he's not out wrangling models, being profiled by the Times, and insulting the rest of humanity. Like waving fake uzis at the "Marilyn and Raggedy Ho party hop on Hallow's Eve," for example (pictured)! Or taking pictures of his cat. Although his political views are "Very Conservative," his relationship status is complicated, he's looking for both men and women, and his priceless statement on his religious views: "god who??"
