    Who said political earnestness translates into parody, satire, giggles, titters or guffaws?

    The answer to the above question is NOBODY. Not a Snuffleupagus "nobody" that is a figment of Big Bird’s imagination that was made into a "somebody" when parent’s complained about Big Bird being portrayed as delusional? No, I mean NOBODY.

    Politics does not ever inherently equal comedy. Stop it folks. #rachel

    @VioletViolet: Nah, politics is not inherently funny. Sex can be funny. Eating can be funny. Watching TV—the physical act itself—is kind of funny. But inherently funny? Nah.

    @NorthernLite: And speaking of FWD:s. I'm always getting the right-wing stuff from some peeps. You know, like ha-ha black people have funny names, "axe" them their name. And in between the bigoted e-mails come the ones about being a Xian.

    I respond with no comment except a link to the pertinent Snopes page "clarifying" any factual errors.

    But today a message bounced back to me that one of THEM had blocked MY e-mail addy. I guess they didn't want no stinking facts interfering with their fun. #rachel

    @NorthernLite: I'm mostly in line with her politics, but I generally find her show tiring and smug. And the sad attempts at "humor" generally are extremely hokey. Also, Gawker spellcheck is NOT cook with "hokey." Also, I meant "cool" not "cook." Also, I'm stoned.

    When I read the examples, I thought "this isn't THAT bad...I've seen worse on The Daily Show, and I love The Daily Show." Then I watched the video. Kent Jones's smug, whiny delivery makes all the difference.

    With shows like The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, and The Soup, if they make a mediocre joke, they know it. Kent Jones, not so much. #rachel

    One of the reasons I had to stop watching her show. Maddow is brilliant, but she doesn't have comedic edge. I'm much more interested in hearing her spar with conservatives than watching her try to channel Jon Stewart. #rachel
