You could run JJ Florio against Giuliani and win. The only way to fuck that up is for the goddamn White House Chief of Staff to get involved in fucking New York gubernatorial politics during a goddamn economic crisis, two wars, a health care debacle, etc.
@Unsolicited Advice: I like your exasperated, spazzed out way of responding to this sort of stories, it is like reading a transcript of my own thoughts.
H2H pre-campaign doesn't have much meaning, I'd rather see the negatives on Paterson, but you've given me a bit of pause there. That's a big margin. Hmm.
Alright, I'm in for the plan. Let's send the White House Chief of Staff blundering into the fray to officially bless the candidate like a modern-day Boss Tweed. Because it certainly won't come off like a selfish, partisan distraction!
@Unsolicited Advice: I agree the WH didn't handle this as smoothly as they could have, but I'm with them in spirit. There is virtually nobody I wouldn't throw under the bus to avoid "Governor Giuliani," and lets face it--Paterson is way out of his depth. Of course, Cuomo's no peach, but... I think the WH is trying to ensure we're served the smallest shit sandwich on the menu.
They are rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. I'd wager that Romney will be the Republican nominee in 2012, no matter who the heck is in Albany, or Trenton, or wherever.
And could someone explain to me how a Cuomo candidacy is supposed to keep Rudy Giuliani from running against Obama in 2012? [gawker.com] If Rudy runs (and wins) against Paterson, he takes office Jan. 1, 2011, and no way he can immediately turn around and start running for president. On the other hand, scare Rudy out of the governor's race by nominating Cuomo, and hizzoner has nothing better to do that try again for the White House (which is a joke, but that's a different post). Again with the unintended consequences, Rahm.
@naugahydeinplainsight: Thanks, but we'll take a pass on four years of Governor Guiliani simply to spare the country the slimmest of chances that he becomes president.
@naugahydeinplainsight: My guess is that the idea here is as much to open the door for Cuomo to run against Paterson as it is to push out Paterson. It will now be a wee bit difficult to make the race argument with Obama on board. If Paterson wants to get crushed in a primary, he can.
I think this has nothing to do with Giuliani running against Obama, which no one is scared of under any circumstances. But Rudy's a formidable candidate for governor, and that's what they want to prevent. I don't think Cuomo chases him out, he just has a much better chance to win.
@naugahydeinplainsight:
They're not concerned about the Rudester running against Obama in 2012 - the GOP base will never choose him. But he does have some viability as a candidate for governor of NY.
That picture makes me think of Rahm the Vampire, and how, during her White House visit, he turned Stephanie Meyer into a sobbing pile of sexual need with single glance, and thus was born the Twilight book about how RPat's character leaves Bella and the vampire babies for a life in politics due to the hot machinations of this vampire mentor dude who is surprisingly JUST LIKE RAHM, but not, and then, somehow, an entire fanfic genre is born featuring Rahm, Jon Stewart and their put-upon sparkly houseboy RPat.
@OrneryBabe: Embarassing but true: the thought of being in the middle of a Rahm/Ari sandwich makes me want to touch myself. And I'm sure we could probably work the doctor brother in too, though I'm not sure where we'd put him.
@PandoraSpocks: not even close to true. rahm is smart and powerful and has a long memory and makes deposits and withdrawls from the favors bank, which is all in the standard job description for his role.
karl rove is a lying spawn of the devil who undermined democracy for fun and carried water for every miscreant trolling for dollars in the most corrupt administration in history, and is not at all hot
@if_i_only_had_a_heart: Rahm E. is hot and you can bet he fucks like a champ! Not Karl Rove, that slacks-wearing pile of blubbery yecccch! No, I thought we were done with him!
But just to contrast him with our beloved Rahm, here is a blast from Gawker's past, via tammyfey: "Is there anyone, but anyone, more physically repulsive than Karl Rove? Can you imagine that clammy loaf of suet climbing on top of you while being drenched in rivulets of lukewarm spittle? Can you hear his feeble, raspy wheeze and smell his fetid breath and traces of Old Spice while you wonder how life will ever have any worth when this ghastly violation has passed?"
And me: "As the deed is about to finish, he calls out in his wretched, love-deprived voice, 'Mother!' then spurts out two tiny droplets. His erect micropenis does not drain any blood, it just falls off to the side a bit--the right side, of course. "
@PandoraSpocks: Difference: Rahm was elected at least once. Even Dick Cheney at one point convinced enough people to vote for him to get into Congress. Rove was never elected to anything other than student council because he's a revolting worm.
Eh. WME Squared or whatever the fuck they're calling themselves these days is good for the entertainment business as a whole, if only because agent-to-agent waged battles for parking spaces around Century City eateries are going to be of Montague/Capulet-esque proportions that will, with any luck, result in many superficial stab wounds.
I'll consider him a success, when I can go for a full year without having to endure any 'remakes' of previous material from classic Hollywood producers. My recommendation? Try using actual WRITING talent. Yes, I know... sacrilege...

Cuomo, however, beats Giuliani head-to-head. So in short, Paterson needs to get lost. What exactly has he been good for, anyway?
