Nader did not call Obama an uncle tom. The author is obviously an unprogressive Democrat apologist who simply wants to slander Nader.
Ralph made some very, very good points, and he's as usual, right on the money.
If you guys want to keep selling your blood to corporate oppression, or are so feely-good about Saint Obama that you take any critical comment about him as a slur, then you are just as bad as Republicans who act the same way.
I disagree with Nader's choice of words and I don't think they were necessary in making the point.
That said, and for those that so quick to criticize Ralph what have you done for you country? Ralph has done more than all the other candidates this year combined. If you don't believe me do the research. You democrats hooting and hollering about how insignificant Ralph is, you've probably already missed that your candidate, who made it such a point to heavily criticize John McCain for voting for the Iraq war in 2002, just named a chief of staff who did exactly the same. More of the same on it's way. As long as you have a candidate that can make you feel good about yourselves with nice blue signs that say 'Change' and mindlessly chanting 'Yes We Can' after pretty speeches ever four years, you'll be happy. Good thing for your children there are people like Ralph Nader that will never quit fighting for justice, no matter how much you spit in their face.
Well this was unexpected -- nearly 50 kneejerks. Fox is slimy, and the great majority of the commenters on this thread chose to wallow and thrash around in the Fox offal. Pay attention skinnywits: Nader said that PEBO has a choice, not that he was an uncle tom. Good job. Most of you are laughably easy prey for conmen *and* quite quick to the lynching.
Oh Gosh, get a life. He didn't call him an Uncle Tom he asked if he would be Uncle Sam or Uncle Tom.
Anyway, the fact that he got so much media attention says more about the media than it does of Nader's sound-bite. 3rd party candidates get no major air time so they and their platforms can either go unnoticed, like Cynthia McKinney's or Bob Barr's did, or say something that gets noticed. The fact that he has to resort to that is a sad statement about the childish attention span of news media.
Late arrival comment: I just got a chance to watch the video. Ralph Nader is a village idiot, but as such I think he deserves some notice. The number of village idiots at any given moment is an overall important political watermark.
nader's a freak, but far from an asshole, especially considering he was interviewed by a Fox News botox victim (that guy looks worse than joan rivers).
granted there's a long string of events that have created some backlash for him, but he's done more for us than most politicians (clean water/air act, covair, non-smoking airlines).
and if he were to debate ANY current politician he would rip them to shreds. he's too smart, too driven no matter the odds.
Pareene, I agree with your current assessment of Nader. But the difference is, I thought he was an unbalanced, selfish asshole back in 2000 too. In fact, He's been the same asshole for the past 30 years.
I don't get this "I used to respect him, but look what a fool he's become" stuff. He was the same idiot the whole time. The only difference is, you've woken up to it for the first time.
And anyone who voted for him in 2000 is a fool, and you cost Al Gore the election by voting for this idiot instead. I don't care what you Nader-ites (or ex-Naderites) say -- it's the truth.
To not only invoke the image, but to continue to stand by it and use it as a rhetorical hammer truly shows the depth of his disrespect for the person and the power of the moment. Clearly, in Ralph's world, only Ralph exists. And in his own world Ralph is above contempt.
But we don't live in Ralph's world, and he truly is a contemptible human being.

And, seriously, isn't NaderHating kind of lame and unoriginal on this day? Grandpa is old as dirt.
