I don't get this "I used to respect him, but look what a fool he's become" stuff. He was the same idiot the whole time. The only difference is, you've woken up to it for the first time.
And anyone who voted for him in 2000 is a fool, and you cost Al Gore the election by voting for this idiot instead. I don't care what you Nader-ites (or ex-Naderites) say -- it's the truth.

He could have said things any other way and made his point but instead he brought in a racist term that died decades ago.

I voted for him in 2000; at the time I truly believed that there wasn't a difference between Gore and Bush. Which is why every day I wish I can hop into a time machine, travel to Election Day 2004 and beat the crap out of myself before I ever got to the voting booth.

I agree with the majority of Ralph Nader's views. Although it is outrageous to essentialize Obama in a way that determines the outcome of his actions (I.E.: If you do one thing you're a bad president, but if you're black and you do it, you're not only a bad president, you're also betraying "your people").
Still, Nader's intolerance for and fighting against structural injustice is admirable. Yes, corporations are an immeasurable problem for this country and the world around us, but it is so unfortunate to see a committed man reduce Obama's capital 'D' Democrat obligations (playing the big business game) as pandering to white folks.
I am grateful for Nader's contributions to the positive and inspiring aspects of this country (inspiring mine and others' commitments to social justice, consumer advocacy and it's continuing influence, etc.). I don't think his contributions should be belittled because of his blatant racism. As much as any reasonably outraged person would like to reduce him to being irrelevant, they are different issues. One problem doesn't cancel out the positive. Unfortunately that isn't how it works. Reality is non-linear, it is not clear cut.
About Nader's campaigns for presidency, he has inspired many people to seek out more than the current "two-party" (often debated that it is still one party) system. He won't legitimize the structural problems by running as a Democrat and yes, I admire his persistence. I am grateful that he has taken one for the team.
To the author of this post, Nader did not call Obama an Uncle Tom, he nevertheless claimed that it could be a possibility.

1. To the author of this post, Nader did not call Obama an Uncle Tom, he nevertheless claimed that it could be a possibility.
2. Do not conflate my respect for Nader with apologizing for his racism.
3. I recommend critical thinking skills.
Me, too.

Absolutely people should hold Obama accountable for his policies. But using racially charged language to do that is entirely unnecessary, and says far more about Nader than it does about Obama.

A beautiful day for a hater,
Will he be fine?
He's lost his mind?
It's a Naderly way to be moody and rude,
A Naderly day to be dated,
Will he be fine?
He's lost his mind?
I had totally wanted to have a Nader in 2000, so sue,
Back then I wanted to live in a Naderhood, like you.
But let's make the most of this beautiful day,
Since we got together, Obama holds sway,
Will he be fine?
He's lost his mind?
Don't you be a hater.
Won't you please,
Won't you please,
Please won't you leave, Ralph Nader.

But would he have been better than Bush? I can't exactly say no-

Also, I will never forgive him for 2000. Never.

(I can't decide if he looks like a character drawn by Steve Ditko or Jack Kirby though. Peter Parker's deeply closeted fellow newsman at the right-wing Daily Bugle, say. Whose secret life leads him do do dark and unspeakable things, at night, dressed in fanciful leather costumes down at the piers back then, or empty trucks.. )

No - the idiots who voted for him are 100% responsible for the hell of the last eight years. As though people didn't know he would draw more votes from Gore than from Bush. Nader is an asshole, but so were those voters.
11/05/08
Feld, you have to be kidding... you cannot be that dumb. You are blaming Nader for everything that has gone wrong in the past 8 years???? seriously?? First of all shithead, most people who voted for Nader would never even considered voting for Gore. That is fact. The other thing you seem to forget is that the Dems voted in favor of, ummm, let's see-- the war, the patriot act, now the bailout.. Should I go on? I better stop as your sad little brain may implode. Have a nice life, and one more thing, make sure you keep making excuses for your party.
