Fantasies about Prince Ginger getting more complicated? Geez, I would have thought the costume-party Nazi uniform five years would have turned people off. for. good. It certainly made me determined to ignore anything he does for the rest of his life.

@Xylo: I'm still unclear on the Nazi uniform incident. I know he's explaining the raghead comment by saying it was a term of endearment for a friend. What could possibly be the excuse for the Nazi uniform? I threw a Halloween party this year, and I don't think I would have let anyone through the door with that costume. You know, unless they brought booze or something.

Not only "raghead", but "Paki", which his spokespeople claim was an affectionate term for a friend. However, the uncle of that soldier, who is now a Captain in the Pakistani Army (!!), claims they weren't particularly close and yes, as everyone knows, it is offensive to call a person from Pakistan a "Paki" : [news.bbc.co.uk]

(Unfortunately, the BBC story is full of rationalization about his past behaviour - saying he "wore an armband with a swastika" to the party, when he was obviously outfitted in a uniform and you have to scroll down mighty far to find the term "Paki".)

There is no excuse at all for anyone wearing a Nazi uniform. Unlike the cute Colonialism re-enactions north and south of the Canadian/US border, the only acceptable recreation of the Nazi era is little toy soldiers on a play battlefield, bombed by little toy airplanes and buckets of acid.

Prince Harry is a tool. Probably has something to do with knowing he gets a free pass through life. His brother has the pressure of being the chosen one, and Harry gets to do whatever the heck he wants. Unfortunately, "whatever the heck he wants" involves being a lousy human being. He's hot though, if I were a 17 year old british girl I would be seriously swooning.

@Xylo: Yes. I was indifferent to Rourke before, but by the end of the film I had so much empathy for the character it was unreal. I had no idea he could act like that, since he's been coasting on "ugly meathead" roles for about 12 years.

The worst aspect of the film was the subplot about his estranged daughter. I understood the purpose it served vis-a-vis his journey of self-awareness, but Evan Rachel Wood is a terrible actress and her performance was unbelievably grating.

@SybilDisobedience: I don't know much about her, so I didn't watch her character with much baggage attached. I just wanted to DIE for him at the blow-up with them. Out of horror or pity or I don't know what, it was unbearable.

@Xylo: Yeah, I knew virtually nothing about her before I saw The Wrestler (other than her icky relationship with Marilyn Manson), but now I am secure in the knowledge that I didn't miss much.

Well, maybe she's just not seasoned enough, and she'll learn some subtlety. She's quite young, after all.

It's hard to believe Rourke just STARted taking steroids for the movie. I think they're an intravenous waste product from the 80's, you know, when Sly Stone and the Arnold groped women, and commiserated with dueling speech impediments.

Em...I am by no means in a position to vouch authoritatively for this, but when Josh Duhamel was in New York doing ALL MY CHILDREN there were numerous people whom I trust and who assured me that his ManHunt profile was pretty raunchy. So...if true, I hope Fergie knows. Really, one Liza Minnelli is enough.
