During a brief pause for photogs tonight in Bergdorf's, THE Anna Wintour stared directly at me (while I was sipping on my free cocktail obvs), looked up and down at my Ann Taylor sale-rack dress and last season Michael Kors shoes (to think, an outfit I was mildly proud of only this morning!) and frowned in a way that only Anna Wintour can frown - that is, without moving any of her facial muscles or adjusting her infamous sunglasses. Needless to say, I was actually kind of honored. If you're going to get judged for what you're wearing, it might as well be by someone who knows what she's talking about right? All I could think about was thank god I wore heels today, she may have spit on me if she had seen the flip flops hidden in my purse...

Hey, did you get a chance to talk to Kors? If so, you should've asked him WHERE HE'S WAS for the last two episodes of Project Runway? (Filmed last Fall of course, but still ...)

When it comes to a conceptual idea about modern American style and femininity in this century, Gwen Stefani actually makes a really good representation, albeit a very glossed over version of it compared to her own self ten years ago. She's decidedly not anglo, her hair is unnatural in every way, her figure is not super small (it might be the angle, but if her arms are actually like that, awesome), and she puts out pop songs inspired by various genres that anyone can dig, which is pretty democratized (and perhaps crass) of her. Anna Wintour represents none of these things, and so I can see why a picture of Gwen with her would be rather worthless, even though you're still totally getting a photo of Gwen.

Having said that, I like this version of Anna Wintour better and hope she keeps this up because it's kind of nice to see her smile. She has a nice life! I would still rather like to see an American lead American Vogue, though, although that would probably Rachel Zoe it all to hell.

@ampersandparade: It's the angle; she is skinny as all fuck. I just moved to NY, and she was my first celebrity sighting, in that very outfit at that very store. I was just there for the free booze, but Gwen Stefani walked by while I was humoring a perfume salesman. She is surprisingly tall and most definitely super small.
