Who wouldn't rather approach fashion and culture with detached bemusement instead of active participation?

I'm told by an insider that former Fairchild boss Mary Berner detested Beckman. "It would give her extraordinary pleasure that he's now in a job where he'd be reporting to her, were she still running Fairchild."

Here's a story on her exit from the group in 2006 -- when Beckman was still riding high.

I can't believe Bob Hoskins gave up acting to be a magazine salesman. That's a demotion.

I wrote to "Fresh Voices" in Parade when I was 16 telling them that even though I was underage, if I earn my own money I should have the right to gamble with it. They actually fuckin printed it w/ my picture.

Friends to this day do not let me live this down.

What always gets a chuckle is seeing how they make it a point to put the ® in front of Howard Huge®, the total hack Marmaduke ripoff. It's like.. register it so no one steals your stolen idea! lulz.

That's too bad because I read Parade when I go to visit my parents in SF. They still get that rag the San Francisco Chronicle.

The idea of Richard Beckman at Parade is hilarious. It really would provide the comedy relief so badly needed in the industry right now... except, of course, for the poor saps at Parade.

Maybe they are putting that guy at Parade so he can rework it. A 33-million circulation is great even if it will inevitably go down because it is an insert. I don't read it regularly but that cover story up there, I'd totally read that it looks like an interesting piece.

@blix: well, she does hold the world record for being the most egotistical-- er, ingenious woman on the planet with a 69140 IQ.

I can't believe she still makes that ridiculous claim. And as a shamefully avid reader of her column as a child, I had often found her view to be incredibly sexist; she really does have a biased hateful tone towards men that shines through even in her math puzzles!
