    The fatal assumption of all fashion writers seems to be that:


    1) Non-fashion writers and non-stylists are as self-conscious/obsessed by fashion as they are;


    2) Fashion-indifferent people have the time and money to shape a purposeful image every single moment.


    When I see candid photos of the fashion writers I don't understand the force of the criticism. They have bad days as well as good ones and should know how merciless the camera can be.


    Blago is obviously way too busy researching inapposite Kipling quotes to worry about his outer appearance.

    Pareene: What's there to admiring about Robin Givhan after she avers:


    No one looks good waving from behind the tinted windows of an automobile unless they happen to be Elizabeth II in a motorcade.


    Elizabeth II never looks anything but butt-ugly. Maybe Givhan's point is that she looks better behind tinted widows than in front. In that case: agreed.


    P.S. If all I am hearing regarding Blagojevich is on the boring issue of his hair, then I am going to start thinking the claims about his alleged crimes are totally bogus.

    I am sorry, Alex, that you guys have to pull weekends now. I stupidly thought the Wonder Twins--Nick and Gabe--would either hire a replacement, or that I'd come back sometime early in the new year. I honestly wanted to. But the firing of Sheila made that impossible. But they should hire a replacement. I wasn't that expensive, unlike Gabe--who costs a hell of a lot.
