Banksy pretends to be as transgressive as that, but he's an overrated bore. I just compared him to a horrible racist cartoonist, unfavorably. Because Banksy's cartoons are even less revelatory and interesting. They're weak jokes and puns anyone can "get" in about five seconds and instantly forget, because they're meaning-free, devoid of any complexity whatsoever. Banksy is a media star first and foremost, tabloids his real medium. He ought to be a fifth-rate cartoonist, but he's not even that good.

No, the whole tired "mystique" angle is why he's desperately trying to cash in- stupid and ugly stuff, watch the rich morons line up to buy because the tabloids here and in the UK adore him. It's still terrible, stupid, smug and condescending "art". As said, the cleverness evaporates in about five seconds. Lame jokes and puns, ugly art that took zero effort. Yet he craps all over the anonymous craftsman who created that angel he dumped a bucket of paint over. Nasty, hostile, disrespectful and ugly. Fuck Banksy.

So what exactly are you complaining about? That Banksy's somehow "cashed in" on what he does? Well what's your fucking problem with that? You spend a lifetime doing something because it tickles you to do that thing, then maybe you SHOULD get to cash in on that once in a while. Why shouldn't the world work like that? Lots of illustrators and animators get to "cash in" on their work and somehow when you put art on walls in galleries it becomes qualitatively different?

I think you're just complaining because he does something that you disapprove of aesthetically and he gets to make money. And that's not a real complaint. That's just an illusory complaint based on the statement "oh the world's not FAIR TO ME".
