'Emasculated' Richard Johnson Can't Tell His Singer/Songwriters Apart

In today's Page Six, the gay singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright is quoted. "I'm still a die-hard romantic and I still subscribe to traditional homosexual attitudes. I love beauty; I love shopping and hookers, you know?" We do know! But the picture wasn't of Rufus Wainwright, nor of his father Loudon. It wasn't even of his mother Kate McGarrigle! No, that's the misshapen mug of Ben Lee, another singer/songwriter and who is definitely on the non-subscriber list for traditional homosexual attitudes. In fact, he once dated Claire Danes, who is neither a shop (though she was in Shopgirl) nor a hooker (though she did play Sookie Saperstein in Igby Goes Down). Keep up this confusion, Johnson, and we might take you someplace private and sing to you from Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall.

"I don't get Rufus Wainwright. What's he whining about?" [Kausfiles]

Celebrating The Freedom Of Paris

  • " If Paris wasn't born, she would have to be invented. If she did not form naturally, we'd have to build one of her," Andrea Peyser finally realizes. Um, clearly. Because there is almost no gossip today that isn't about her. [NYP]

What's The Gayest Gym In New York?

Rufus Wainwright tells Spin that Anderson Cooper goes to the gayest gym in New York—the Equinox in the Time Warner Center. Page Six retorts: "Actually, the David Barton Gym on West 23rd is the gayest in the city." Hmm. That may have been true in the 90s—is it still? What about Equinox on Greenwich? What about the New York Sports Club on 23th and 8th? Or even 23rd and Park? (They do call it the New York Sex Club, after all.) And the Crunch on Lafayette? How could B. D. Wong's favorite gym not be the gayest in town? Please to school us, gays and gay watchers. More »

Liz Smith Incites Gay War Over Judy, Rufus

On the holiest day of the Gay Year—the announcement of Tony nominations—a conflict has broken out that threatens to rend the community into deeply opposed warring factions: supporters of Rufus Wainwright and supporters of the poor maligned ghost of Judy Garland! At least, that's how Liz Smith, who is a gay man, sees it. More »

The Dreams That We Dare to Dream Really Do Come True

It will be the most extraordinary collection of homosexuality to have ever been gathered in Carnegie Hall — with the possible exception of when Liberace rehearsed alone. More »
