Just coming from seeing the movie I did notice that: there is almost no chemistry between the actors portraying Harry and Ginny, Ron and Hermione. It was almost painful watching them act out the romantic aspects of the plot. Harry and Ron were much more comfortable with each other. (As should be the case I guess, since they've been sharing a room together for 6 years now.) And I always wondered about the Hogwarts (or Snogwarts) showers. Are they they individual cubby holes for privacy or big long troughs with sprinkler heads descending from the ceiling, a la Shawshank Redemption?

That pic has been going around the H/D fandom for ages. It was made by a Russian girl, Eneada, and you can see more in her gallery: http://eneadart.narod.ru/
(So many people have uploaded these pics in their Photobucket accounts, etc, that the artists's name - if I recall correctly she used to put them on her manips - have been removed by people at some point)
Her manips have been showing up a lot, lately :D
I've got news for you: life has homosexual undertones. And it's probably better characterized as homoamory, which—perhaps you're unaware of this—is what close male friendship looks like between men with emotional IQs above retardation. Love and affection towards your male friends doesn't mean you're gay; it means you're friends.
Many of the Classics were written by gay men, so I agree with eleusiswalks that many of them were, in fact, "giant penis suck fests," as it were.
I do, however, think that people look back at old movies, tv shows, and even literature with an eye toward finding man-to-man intimacy. It's something that earlier generations were much more comfortable with. Not because they were okay with homosexuality, but because they were less AWARE of it. Now that people can be out and proud, men are far more careful about touching or showing affection in any manner that might be perceived as "gay." Pathetic, but true.
I haven't seen the newest Potter film, so I'll defer to those who have.
God, I hate H/D. As for this: "the homoeroticism that was on the screen is absent in the books", surely you are joking, right? Where do you think that manip came from, missy? There are thousands upon thousands of fraus and college girls out there who picked up on the supposed UST coming from Harry and Draco in HBP when that book was first published. Hell, it was JKR who came up with the boy from the closet and all of these other Vanishing closets and such to begin with. Look at your source material.
You do know that Tom Felton's brother has that pic on his phone's wallpaper to taunt him, right?
And I object to you saying DanRad has always played Harry as fey? How, exactly? Being bisexual, I'm all for everybody being bi, and I think that Mr. Radcliffe will probably swing both ways at some point in his life, but not because of the way he carries himself did I draw that distinction. I get really sick of the 'gayface' and 'he acts gay' comments, because that's just pure crap. Some of my gayest friends act like any other guy who loves beer and football, they just happen to love cock, too. What century are we living in, anyway, that we're still dealing with stereotypes like these?
It is almost embarrassing that we have the same name.
Personally, I think looking for homo-eroticism in everything, even a family film, is as bad as teenagers calling anything weird 'gay'.
You can read just about anything out there with a gay subtext; this is nothing new nor edgy.
Against my common sense, I just don't think DR is gay. He's so honest and open about everything else, I think he would just TELL us if he were gay. I mean, he went on stage and let his balls hang out for everyone to see during Equus! (I have no explanation for the pink suit he wore to the HP #6 opening though.)
@Island of Misfit Toys: I think it's possible he's waiting for the series to end because, for better or worse, gayness and 'children's stories' tend to mix poorly in the press. qv Dumbledoregate.
@eleusiswalks: But he talks openly about liking women! I'd hate to think that he's outright lying. He seems too well-balanced for that! Doesn't Kevin Spacey just give a terse "no comment" or something when asked about dating? I guess it seems like avoidance of the topic would be more in tune with his personality than an overall declaration of a mis-truth.
@Sandogg: Had only Harry suffered (?!) a thorough, aching, complete rogering at the hands of Malfoy (or vice-versa: sigh - kids) one languid afternoon in the Room of Requirement, Dumbledore may very well still be alive and much Hogwart's crystal be left unbroken. Although it's unclear if Snape could handle two Potters stealing the objects of his affection.
Well, you could have approached this from the standpoint of the way sexuality was dealt with in a really funny way, i.e. Ginny tying Harry's shoe, and creepy Cormac McClaggen licking his finger at Hermione. But this works too.
And actually, there was a funny line in Half-Blood Prince the book - "Harry, however, had never been less interested in quidditch; he was rapidly becoming obsessed with Draco Malfoy." (409)
I was so geared up to take issue with every single point because I've always objected to the way people impose sexuality onto what are really remarkably asexual stories, but dammit, I can't. I spotted just about everything you pointed out, Natasha. It's a little ostinato thudding through the entire movie, but it's not in the books at all.
