I don't understand how changing the pen you write with is especially helpful in preventing other people from signing your name with a different pen.

I also don't understand what would stop committed forgers from buying Uni-ball pens.

@Moff: No, it works the other way. Somebody intercepts your check for $20 to pay for a magazine subscription, erases the amount (or changes it to $2,000 or $20,000) and erases the payee and inserts his own name. That way the signature is good even though the rest of the check is bogus. At least that's how it was done in the old days, before you could just walk into a bank and say "I want to buy a house even though I have no money" and they'd give you $300,000 in exchange for a mortgage on a piece of swampland in East Jesus, SD. Times are tough and the mortgage thing doesn't work any more, so maybe the old ways will come back.

But no hating on Ms. Merkerson. She's a talented actor who paid a lot of dues before she got that L&O gig. I'm not going to begrudge her a little cashing in.

Has anyone else noticed that when she says "All Uniball pens" the fine print at the bottom of the screen reads:

"Excludes: Fusion, Onyx, Roller, Moller Micro, and certain colors of Vision and Vision Exact."

That's more exceptions than you'll find in the typically car dealer's ad.
