So what's the score with every Gawker post involving Anderson Cooper (and a lot of posts that don't really involve Anderson Cooper but have him inserted in there) outing him, detailing rumors and possible "leads" about his relationships, and appealing for him to out himself and share his love life but meanwhile the posts about closeted Shep are just uncritical fanboy stuff without outings, gossip or appeals?
Seriously if Cooper had all his limbs cut off in a threshing accident the Gawker post about the incident would read "Cooper becomes big homo torso - why isn't he using his time in hospital to dictate a book for us on his big gay sex life?".
@Aatom:Actually he earned that title during Katrina, when he did a morning piece from a highway overpass outside New Orleans, next to an anonymous dead person under a sheet. He just lost it, and basically called out Fox's leash-holders (e.g. BushCo) for their willful ignorance of the disaster.
@VeeKaChu: I thought I recalled that clip, but can't find it anymore. Now the only one I can find is the one on the overpass when he's leached of all emotion and responds like a zombie. He's so clearly traumatized by what's happening, he doesn't respond to the anchor's attempts to jolly him along AT ALL.
It's great. Makes Shep look very human and the anchor ghoulish.
I love Shep Smith. Unfortunately there's nowhere appropriate for him to go. He's too lively for CNN and too moderate-right for MSNBC. God help them if they ever fire the best commentator they have.
@rhys1882: I need Shep to stay on Fox. I love him, obviously, and selfishly want him to be on a channel I'd actually watch all the time, but also understand that it's more important that he continue to bring a touch of sanity to the wingnut world every month or so.
The Fox guys can't dismiss Shep as easily as they do others, or cut off his mic. They actually have to listen when he points this stuff out, and the hesitant, wary look on their faces gives me a tiny sensation that I think might just be hope.
@rhys1882: CNN has had lively people. Until recently they had Glenn Beck hosting a show on CNN Headline News, for god's sake. Have you seen Richard Quest? Even Lou Dobbs is lively in his way. And CNN has a number of glass closeted people on camera so that would fit too.
If Shep was willing to give up the bigger paychecks and higher ratings that come with being on FOX he could fit in somewhere else like CNN. And on another network he wouldn't by part of the machine promoting a party that are battling against gay rights, which should be relevant since he's a gay man.
Out there, eh? Out there? Seems a touch... distant from you and your work, doesn't it Shep? Sure they're out there, but they're staring straight at YOU and listening to you every day of their lives.

conservative and psycho-idiot aren't necessarily synonymous and shep proves that.
