Wait, whats the character who says "Aaaaaaaaaaauuuuuucccccccccch, that's cute!" I love Kristen Wiig. And while we're at it, whenever I think about good recent SNL I think of Amy Poehler and Kaitlin... my favorite.
Her characters aren't always funny.. but the woman is talented. Herself, Andy, and Bill are the main reason I've started tuning into SNL again. I love her celebrity impersonations, and occasionally her featured characters.
Aunt Linda (Weekend Update movie reviews) is my favorite. It kills me, but I think that's mostly becuase I know a couple of Aunt Lindas. It makes gatherings with the in-laws much more entertaining if I can make a drinking game out of the "Oh brothers" and "Ghaaaahs".
@Ogiri W Surie: I don't watch SNL - I've never seen her in anything aside from those Vincent Price Holiday Specials - but I just about peed myself watching that Target Lady clip. The others? Eh. But that Target Lady shit is inspired.
@Ogiri W Surie: I haven't found most of these sketches to be all that funny, but I think at this point SNL could take any comedian regardless of talent and make them not funny.
Penelope sucks, but the "bitch please" (not featured above) movie reviewer is great. "Vin Diesel should take a Fast walk into a Furious wood chipper.....biiiiitch pleeeeaaase!"
@logruszed: Penelope is the best! Also, all of the haters out there I have two words for you: Cheri Oteri. Anyone saying Wiig is bad and not facing the reality of Cheri Oteri is a bit looney tunes.
@SpyMagician: I dunno' if I get your point. Are you saying she is good because Oteri was bad? If so, why can't they both be bad? SNL has a long history of losing their best talent.
The characters named above (except Bjork) were probably her least funny impressions. Penelope? Really? What about Lawrence Welk Lady, or her interpretation of Nancy Pelosi, or Greta van Susteren?
@robotsattack: Thank you for reminding me about the FingerLake sister group. That sketch still makes me laugh. The Judy Grimes character and Suzy Orman can be funny occasionally, but all of the above sketches kind of prove why Wiig is too overused on the show and how SNL desperately needs funnier female comics like Amy Poehler back on the show.
@SpyMagician: I can probably watch a show built around those characters. Okay, maybe I could only stand 1/2 hour, but they would be so much better than Gilly.
I can tell she's very talented, but that stupid "just kidding" lady is just...well, unfunny. She's a cross between Kevin Nealon's "subliminal guy" and...um, some other character that annoys me.
This is probably a one-off skit, but Wiig's impression of a theater actress circa 1960 is so incredible, is has fast become my favorite character she has ever done. LOOK AT ME!
Um, yeah. This Lawrence Welk skit made a sound occur from my face that wasn't pleasant. Never watch "The Wiig" while innocently eating ice-cream. A choke-chortle-wheeze-spit-cough-lady bark isn't pretty.
@Spirit Fingers: I laughed so hard during that skit that my hubs thought there was something wrong with me. Just thinking about rendered me speechless . . .
@quickqueenof: @KikiCanuck: Got it DVRd so I can replay at my leisure and without fear of liquid contents leaving my nasal passages or making me tinkle.
I'm not gonna stand for this sitting around and complaining about anything Kristen Wiig does. She. Is. Amazing. And god bless SNL actually is smart enough to use her in nearly ever skit. And they'd damn well better be paying her well too. When she quits it, I quit it.
