The one thing I haven't been able to figure out is whether he alerted the WH that she was his girlfriend when he suggested her. If he didn't, that could have really put Obama on the spot. On the other hand, Obama really needs him to pass health reform, so they can't make a big deal about it.

He finally got smart and decided to get a divorce. Unless the pre-nup has some kind of opt out, bad boy clause, it's cheaper to dump her. Even if she gets something like $100,000- $200,000 per kid a month, that's still no where near the $55-70 million she wanted to re-negotiate the pre-nup. Plus, a divorce makes it look like they are being honest about the situation and not entering into a business arrangement just to keep up the facade of having a happy family. Why stay if everyone is miserable? Whores are now coming out of the woodwork. The marriage didn't work out. It's best for everyone to cut their losses and move on.

She and the children will be well cared for, she can get a new husband, and he can, um, have Ambien sex all he wants without worrying about the consequences.

The thinking that it's "just financial" - when there are two young lives, and two kids who will be unable to avoid the knowledge of exactly why Daddy and Mommy aren't together - no offense to HeyWhat, but kids suffer a lot of collateral damage, and the kids deserve more consideration than "oh, it's just a few hundred K."

@heywhat: It might be cheaper to dump her based on the prenup, but the bottom line financially is that the children are entitled to the lifestyle that they would have led if their famous father had stayed with their mom. Mom's a cinch to get custody and even if she didn't have her own money, she would be able to live quite well on the children's money.

The important thing for rich men who don't want to pay out big money in divorce settlements is to not have those babies with the wife. You can't exclude child support in a prenup.

Oh and I'm glad you seem heartless because I am on a mission to convince 5ftoffury that people who lack empathy and compassion cannot be educated into having it. And do not see the point of trying to obtain it.

The thing is it seems like if you marry a rock star, hollywood actor or sports celebrity it's almost a guarantee they will cheat on you.

    That's the downside.

The upside is that you get to live a life of luxury, go to fab parties and and have tons of fun.

Girls who can't deal with the downside shouldn't sign up for it and if you are a rock star, hollywood actor or sports celebrity you should find a girl who thinks the upside outweighs the downside.

@goober8004: I worked in the film industry and was a cocktail waitress in a live music venue in college.

These men had an almost constant stream of women throwing themselves at them. The only band that didn't pick up girls in the audience was the Blind Boys of Alabama, & that's only because they were about 300 years old at the time.

I've seen wives locked out of greenrooms while their husbands have sex, I've seen directors disappearing into their trailers with extras, had producers send me to buy presents for their location girlfriend without batting an eye. It's not hidden in any way. Maybe you've just never experienced that world.

@drunkexpatwriter: I agree with you, up to a point, in these matters (You've chimed up several times in similar threads)... but in your comments you seem to be putting the force of the blame on the poor decision-making skills of the women. And it's not - it's the man's job to be honest. Or, to be exact, it's on the Non-monogamous party's head to be upfront, to un-gender this. (We ain't so different, men and women, in my opinion)

It might be stupid to distant observers who aren't currently getting their heart scooped with a rusty spoon, it might be silly and seem like she should have been calculating, but we tend to believe the people we care about. We WANT to believe them, and the full power of our twisty mindbits goes into making that so. Intelligence is unrelated; most people have to get burned to understand this is not always the wisest thing.

Giving Elin the benefit of the doubt, she cared about Tiger, and his money was just the icing on the cake. She comes from money, so perhaps she had the expectation she'd marry rich. Fame doesn't seem to interest her. There's kind of a no win here - either she's a calculating money-grubbing bitch for marrying him, or a stupid naive girl who got what was coming to her for not being smarter. He obviously did not tell her he was going to be sleeping a burning swath through the ladies of the Las Vegas nightlife scene, and probably lied to her with incredible consistency and not a little skill.

That's not her issue, as a young woman who believed what someone told her - that's his for being a lying scumbag.

Now, if this becomes a habit... well, then someone needs to sit her down for a talk.
