Grace went on to ask Ms. Streep if "[she] know[s] why Sasha [Jones] and Sylvie [Errolson] keep saying they aren't [her] friend at lunch and make the boys say that [she] smell[s] funny." #merylstreep
@Magister:
Kind of makes you want to get a subscription to Scholastic to find out!
This is why McManus will keep her job. Maybe pro-journalists should take a tip. Get your excellent questions published by someone else online- keep the answers in your own print. #merylstreep
Despite Ms. Streep's compliments, McManus was fired from Scholastic later that evening.
"We understand it may have seemed harsh at the time," said Todd Spellington, McManus' Editor-in-Chief, "but we feel we're teaching Grace an important lesson about journalism."
Spellington cited that it was not simply enough to have the subject of your headline compliment you on your question, but to actually answer the question as well.
"I'm not sure what I'm going to do as a journalist in this kind of economy," McManus wrote in a recent blog entry for the Huffington Post.
In a sly reference to David Letterman's recent scandal and previous controversy surrounding a sexual joke concerning Sarah Palin's daughter, McManus went on to float the idea that maybe she "would intern for [him] if this were only 5 months ago and he could keep a [expletive] secret ;-)"
When contacted for comment, Streep responded only with, "Your question does not stimulate the senses." #
